You can purchase a Vinyl to PC deck for £20, but I guess it's not affordable if you dont have the vinyls.

I could easily rip all the album vinyls, but the quality is never great. Frequent popping noises and such.

*I base this information on absolutely nothing*

I think what anyone (!) interessted in HQ Vinyl rips should be looking out for is, the rips of PBTHAL! Believe me, they are incredible. He is quite an audiophile and does a lot of amazing vinyl transfers for all kinds of music (mostly rock oriented stuff from the past). He has a very expensive setup and takes great care of the material. He does not use digital noise reduction. No pops and such, as clear as any CD - believe me - its unbelieveable.

I'm desperatly searching for his version of "The Fame" and even more "The Fame Monster" Promo (since this isn't a picture vinyl and has much less surface noise). He used to have a blog but is was closed down.

I could point you the right direction where to find his version of BTW (in FLAC (lossless)). It sounds sooooo amazing. Much more transparent and detailed than the CD, much more dynamic range. Just PM me for the link! (also if you have the PBTHAL needledrops of Fame & Fame Monster, preferably in Flac).

Just see the waveform of Bad Romance, to spot the difference. No brickwalling on the vinyl version. You can actually see the gain in detail. This is form PBTHAL rip of the Fame Monster Promo, which i unfortunatly do not(!) have.

Anyone interessed to learn something about what "loudness" is, and why the "loudness war" is harming the music, should check out this article for starters:

You seem exceptionally informed and educated in these matters!

I hope you stick around and offer your knoweledge all over my section!

As far as PBTHAL is concerned, I'm very interested to learn more.

This!

Speaking of vinyls, I tried playing my limited edition picture vinyls today (got my dad's old record player out) but the needle was broken...

Edit: Welcome to the forums, k-rated!

Thank you Sagerauru!! Did I promise to much?

I think "Born This Way" is the most impressive of the three! Very open and dynamic. It probably had the best mastering to start with. But also listen to e.g. Love Game. The vinyl version has much more punch! You just have to turn it up, since the overall volume is lower! (The music might seem more "flat" at first but if you turn it up, the beauty of it will show.)

I made a dynamic range a--lysis (http://www.pleasurizemusic.com/) and "Love Game" CD version scores a DR5, whereas the Vinyl scores DR13 (!). The higher the value, the more dynamic range (difference between the loudest and the quietest parts) there is.

As far as PBTHAL is concerned he is kind of an "internet hero", for a lot of people, including me. He rips so many great albums and offers them for free. Most of us would probably never be able to hear these vinyls that way, because a high quality setup is very expensive and takes great care - remember its all a--logue. Once its digital, its far more easy to reporduce and with FLAC we don't even loose quality! PBTHAL likes to stay "undercover" (to quote him "You may know my first name but please do not use It In comments").

Just type PBTHAL + Vinyl in any search-engine and you will find lots of stuff from him. I think right now he is on avax.

This is his record player (he has modified it, this is the standard version) - http://www.vpiindustries.com/static.php?page=The_Scoutmaster

If anyone can't handle the FLAC files, there is an easy way to convert them to WAV. Just let me know, and i'll post it here!
