#1 single in the usa Royals disagrees with your irrelevance :legend::troll:

I see people saying this a lot but it's clearly not Billboard so is this like on iTunes? Because "Baby I" was #1 on iTunes and look at where it is now.

EDIT: wow, it's #3 on Billboard. That's pretty impressive, actually. How did this happen though, like she just came out of nowhere. Was it a viral YouTube thing because this was super fast, not a slow climb.

I believe she just touches the surface of this subject, feminism that is.

It isn't that black and white as she seems to take..

When she hit the core, all that she believes in will come back and bite her in the @$$.

Being a feminist does not mean you cannot seduce a man when you like it.

More over, really think we should have a one thread where all of her disses

complied into one. "Lorde Diss" or something like that.

YES! People don't get this! FEMINISM IS COMPLICATED like look at the Wikipedia article it's not "grrl power" like everyone here thinks it is. Repeating "I am a feminist" doesn't make your point well supported. Indeed, being chained to an ideology, whatever it may be, doesn't make you a free thinker - quite the opposite. I do believe s-xism is an issue in society but I don't always agree with what the "feminist community" thinks is the issue or how to solve it. Sometimes we're on the same page and sometimes not. That doesn't make me anti-woman (being that I am a woman, it is in my best interest for society to not be treating women like trash, get what I'm saying?).

Honestly, Lorde is a pop singer, not an academic or a political activist. I don't expect her to be intricately familiar with the nuances and history of feminism. However, on that same token, if she is not familiar with feminism besides a superficial understanding of it, I find it foolish to align herself to an ideology. It'd be like saying "I think class inequality is a bad thing, so I'm a socialist" without understanding what socialism is. You do not have to be a feminist to support equality between all genders. Feminism is a political movement, not a shorthand for "gender equality." Feminism is a name that has been used by people like Andrea Dworkin who viewed visual s-xual entertainment as degrading to women and viewed trans women as "men in drag." If you still want to be part of the movement while being aware of its past failures, good. Condescending to and insulting people who do not wish to identify as feminists is harmful.

Lorde: Taylor Swift isn't good for young girls

lorde-nz-metro-cover.jpg

The 16-year-old singer opened up about her beliefs on feminism.

“I think women who say, ‘No, I’m not a feminist  I love men,’ I think that is just… You don’t know what it means. You think it means that, ‘I don’t shave under my arms, I burn my bras. F men!’ How could you be so uneducated, and so unwilling to learn about something which is so important to you?†she says.

Lorde continued about the influence she has on other young women: “Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s fâ€â€Ã¢â‚¬â€ ********.â€

idk it's not so much the artists she's criticizing, but society's views on them and the way female celebrities are portrayed

I wouldn't say that I fully disagree with her, but these strongly opinionated remarks aren't helping her in the long run - at least in terms of appeasing people to her side. Most especially that she's just a newbie in the limelight. Does she even have some PR team or something?
