what considered dubstep has been used in electro music for a long time. britney may have dabbled in it in 2 tracks but it didnt make the album forward thinking. overall it fit perfectly where it was, it didnt really look ahead.

it was still influential in being the earliest pop star to have that type of sound on a pop album. it influenced a lot of pop singers and producers at the time.

okay fine ill give you that it was progressive for her to include a dubstep type sound in 2 of her songs. but i dont believe that that album influenced pop singers or producers at the time.

it was rave music that was the influential factor because thats the direction music went.

confessions didnt make that trend worldwide. there was an onslaught of british alt bands that created this whole movement in the industry and meanwhile electroclash and electronica had been the major underground genre and it started popping out because of super mainstream bands like the killers and the bravery and gwen stefanis solo record love. angel. music. baby.

confessions is one of my favorite madonna albums dont get me wrong, but it did not set the trend. it was a really well made pop album that was apart of the trend. an example of madonna doing whats popular really ****ing well, as opposed to mediocre like with hard candy and mdna.

im gonna sound like a dick saying this but you were like 7 when confessions came out. i may have been only 14 and starting high school but i was old enough to acknowledge what was going on in pop culture at the time.

Its not about starting trend,I still believe that Confessions was part of the landscape, but there is a difference between just being a part of and being a huge part of it,It was a breath of fresh air out of Madonna to do so after the American Life era.

But for the most part,I agree with you.

Its definitely not Blackout people :smh:

dubstep was only used again in 2011-2012 onward.

this thread went wrong before it even began; with the poll question. it's already a lost cause because the question in this thread is about narrowing it down to one person, one moment in time, one year or decade, which you just can't.

it was a breath of fresh air for madonna specifically for sure. but i never thought of confessions as a major player in the overall scope of that whole new wave boom. in actuality gwen was a much bigger perpetuater of that trend because her album was totally synth and new wave. but confessions was definitely among my favorite mainstream attempts. and i actually really liked kellys song 'one word' which actually came out before confessions. but it obviously didnt get much recognition beyond gay clubs and myspace because kelly was just a non factor by that point.

see gwen was really bringing back real dance music in 2004, a hell of a lot sooner than gaga. what you waiting for, for instance is much more dance-oriented than just dance/lovegame/paparazzi.

sarah mclachlan did and she made an album that musically sounded similar to ray of light before madonna did lol

what you waiting for is just as dance oriented as just dance actually. lovegame kind of felt more urban influenced and paparazzi was gagas very commercial version of synth a la depeche mode or something.

If we are talking about 2008 onward acts then its definitely Gaga,

Even though PF had a little bit of European dance music vibe into it,Just Dance's and Poker Face's success was game changing.

the fame and fergie's solo record the duchess to me seemed like they both became because of gwens solo record imo

everyone keeps saying blackout but gwen literally pulled out the synths and electro beats before britney, gaga, and madonna even.

Are you talking about Solace?

Ray of Light was more acid tripping.
