Shadownight 682
What do the midterms mean? I'm from the UK and not sure. This doesn't determine the new president does it?
calmar 23,108
Just now, Shadownight said: What do the midterms mean? I'm from the UK and not sure. This doesn't determine the new president does it? No. The president is elected every 4 years, and in the 2-year spaces that fall halfway in between, we have midterms. Some state governor, state senator, and state house of representative seats open up at this time, all three of which are positions that individual citizens vote on. Because our legislative branch (congress; senate/house) holds the power (at least in theory) to put a damper on the president's power, if the same party gets a majority in both the senate and the house of representatives, it can be either really good for the president (if he's of the same party; the case for republicans between 2024 and 2026), or really bad for the president (if he's of a different party than both chambers of congress; 2026-2028.) 3
Franch Toast 27,887
I am on cloud 9 that Abdul El-Sayed is my Senator, or should I say, will be come January. Michigan didn't flip as we were blue already, but I'm glad we stayed blue, and it looks like my local Congressional seat is flipping blue too (AP hasn't called it yet). Mike Rogers is a piece of scum, and Haley Stevens is the flea that lives on a piece of scum. I hope to never hear them speak again. Rogers led such a vile, racist, Islamophobic campaign against El-Sayed here in a state that has the largest Middle Eastern population outside of the Middle East. He and his team tried to pit Black and Jewish voters against Muslims, and it didn't work. Meanwhile, El-Sayed campaigned in parts of the state that are traditionally very conservative and very white, like the Upper Peninsula. He reached out to neglected groups in metro Detroit such as Chaldeans. He worked his ass off to earn every single vote. While he never sunk to Rogers's and the GOP's level, he stood up for himself and for Michiganders to rebuke their abhorrent lies. He mentioned freeing Palestine in his acceptance speech. I've already expressed my joy for elsewhere in the country last night. Texas. Iowa. Both Carolinas. Kansas. Maybe Mississippi. But when I went to sleep, the Michigan results hadn't been called yet. I am proud to be a Michigander today. She/Her/Hers 5 1 5

He's already got the SCOTUS ruling giving him immunity, he just needs to sign a pardon for his family (like Biden did) and **** off if they go near him. For now though, the first target with be Kegsbreath. A Nixon would do. Just so long as he's gone.
