if Israel wants this to work,

And this is my point which I think you've missed.

Why would Israel want it to work? As far as they are concerned, they've got the winning hand.

There is no peace deal available that will work without the world suddenly uniting against Israel and forcing its leadership to take orders.

As it currently stands, the only deal that could be reached between Israel & Palestine without a change in the global political order is one of total submission.

And the alternative is the electoral systems we see in Northern Ireland & Lebanon where the 2 competing communities are forced into powersharing by deliberate design of the voting system and legislative/executive system. The issue of course being, this then entrenches the cultural divide rather than seeks to weaken it and actively hampers efforts to integrate even if it does limit the violence.

As someone with a lot of Northern Irish family (ironically also Jewish), you don't want to replicate the Northern Irish political system. It did the job in that it ended the Troubles as an active conflict, but it's an absolute shambles when it comes to... you know... governing.

You have extended periods without any government, because if one community has even the slightest issue, they halt the entire legislative process, and even when there is a government, it's basically a technocratic government trying to keep things running rather than an actual political project that can do new things. For Israel and Palestine, a region with far more to overcome than Northern Ireland ever did, you want effective government, not a slow shambling machine like in NI.

High turnout normally means the polls are wrong

Hopefully that's a good thing

Arabic ballot shortages reported in major Palestinian towns during Israeli election

The Adalah Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel issued an urgent demand to the Central Elections Committee today following reports of widespread shortages of Arabic-language ballots across multiple polling stations.

According to election observers and Palestinian voters, polling centers in key towns opened without basic voting materials in Arabic.

Adalah dispatched a formal warning calling on election authorities to rectify the procedural failures immediately by distributing Arabic ballots and issuing explicit guidelines to local voting committees.

The legal center emphasized that withholding native-language ballots constitutes a direct infringement on the fundamental right of Palestinian citizens in Israel to participate equally in the electoral process.

With Arabic serving as the primary language for hundreds of thousands of eligible voters, legal advocates stressed that access to native-language ballot slips remains a necessary legal condition for maintaining electoral legitimacy.

The procedural barriers in Palestinian communities follow wider claims of voter suppression raised by opposition figures as polls opened across the country.

Actually the opposite, it means a lot of people participated in the elections.

Yeah that's the turnout part.

But high turnouts throw opinion polling out because opinion polling are based on predicted turnouts based on trends and weighted/sampled accordingly.

My siblings and their partners voted the Democrats (Yair Golan)

My dad voted Ra'am (Mansour Abbas)

If I were there, I would have voted Ra'am as well most likely, I think it's important to have an Arabic, Palestinian, Muslim/Christian voice. I really hope that they will be part of the next goverment.
