I mean you should expect to be able to use it like it's meant to be and not worry if a driver isn't paying attention? It's a first gen new product category for the company. I can't tell you one product that hasnt come with issues from them when they first launched. If you're expecting it to be perfect I don't know what to tell you. The amount of people using it every day prior to launch was probably less than 100. And now we're expecting it to go into the real world to millions of people that all use it in different ways and we're surprised when 1,000 of them have issues? As in .1% of the population?

Companies used to do vigorous stress testing of their products for months before release to ensure a high quality product is released to the public. I'm talking they would build dedicated machines that would bend the item under different strengths, flex the hinges thousands of times repeatedly, apply pressure to the screens and sides, etc, to tell them exactly what they can handle and to ensure they will be durable enough for the average person. Apple is one of the biggest and richest companies on the planet. It really comes down to a case of laziness because Apple knows they can get away with it You all need to start putting pressure on these giant companies again instead of licking their corporate boots. The truth is the standards have slipped massively over the past couple decades to the point now where the public is supposed to accept that a new product, sold at full price, won't be durable until it's second iteration? That is absolutely ridiculous. And they're laughing all the way to the bank I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

That is absolutely ridiculous. And they're laughing all the way to the bank And if a product category across the industry is WIDELY known to have hinge issues, why are we expecting it to be near perfect. Again, the possible few thousand people that have had durability issues is not a large number compared to the 6 million units that analysts estimated were produced. If 6,000 people have hinge issues from the 6 million initial units, that's .1% of the units. Even if Apple were to test 100,000 hinges before their initial production run, that means 100 broke. 100 that were probably spread over however many months. Now the 6,000 number is fictitious but also probably an exaggeration because we have seen exactly how many people post their issues? Is it that it's a widespread problem or that it's a few voices being loud and jumping on a company because "eat the rich"? I think we really need to consider what bootlicking entails. If I was bootlicking I would say that the product is perfect when I can acknowledge it's not. I would have the iPhone Duo and glaze it after upgrading my phone this year, but I didn't buy the Duo and don't care much for it. 1) Yall think trying to be objective about an issue means people are just on a company's side. And 2) Refusing to even consider anything objectively because you view it as you vs the company makes you just look dumb and makes others tune you out on more important issues regarding said company. You and I have had a lot of positive interactions over the past few years and seem to generally agree on things. Disagreeing is completely fine. But at the end all I'm saying about this is that at least try to be objective about the issue so that when the company does something outrageous, we can direct that energy there. Apple having limited data, even after stress tests, is not outrageous on a new product line. There's a million other things to be outraged at them for, such as their comfort around the Trump admin and obvious corruption resulting from it. This isn't one of those moments. NewEnglandWitch 321
Kinda expected this. Foldable phones notoriously suck and there is a reason they’re only 3% of the overall phone market.

I think this phone is dumb, but let’s not pretend this is an Apple price. The majority of foldable are garbage and in the same price range. While there is apple fan boys, there is also the opposite with excessive vilification of apple, usually from Samsung users which is ironic since they’ve made phones and tvs that explode or catch fire
CatelynnMarie 4,577
man i miss when we had the razr, chocolate, SIDEKICK, even the palm pre. so many unique and pretty reliable phones back then. the modern day suits continue to have zero taste across the board. it's beyond laughable kind of expected the duo would have issues, although, completely unacceptable. Samsung fold 8 excels in all the areas the iphone duo is failing at so what's the excuse.

Interesting: the specs for the fold 8 are near identical, the IP rating is worse on fold 8, the price is $1900, and it still scratches at level fingernail on the inner screen. Not seeing where the phone is a major difference from Apple here

Not seeing where the phone is a major difference from Apple here Just to name a few The screen of the fold 8 is way more vibrant especially outdoors since Samsung didnt pretend to "fix" the crease (which is barely noticeable while using the phone) by slapping a matte screen guard on it. The UI is also better as well as multitasking. The control panel being at the right hand side of the duo forces apps and website to squeeze at the center is just ridiculous. The fold 8 is also more durable than the iPhone Duo despite the duo claiming to be IP68.
