Meruk Holland 2,487
So basically, she believes that the only people who can legitimately identify as women are those who went through a girl's childhood. Because no amount of identifying, hormonal therapy, or complete transitioning is enough for her. To Rowling, trans women saying they are women is stolen valor. She doesn't actually care about the reality of gender on an individual or societal level, she just cares that trans people didn't have to go through the trauma that she did. Just utter Boomer logic. She doesn't state it here, but her views on trans men are just as regressive and disgusting, she views them as lost girls or even traitors to women because they "choose to run away from being women". She essentially only cares about what people were raised as, then she applies misandric feminism (which is paradoxically man-hating and upholds patriarchal concepts), and that is the be-and-end-all to her views 1 1

NewEnglandWitch 321
Is Ms Rowling concerned she might be trans at this point? I stg I have never heard this much about trans people from literally anyone else. I have also never had anyone quadruple down on the issue. I understand how she feels about a very tiny few of these points, but I disagree with all of them. I’ve also never heard a single person claim that women suddenly cease to exist functionally…. Which ultimately defeats the point of transitioning. I do not appreciate her evoking the specter of gays and lesbians to push her point either. Yes women and trans women need unique care. Because all individuals need unique healthcare. I cannot attempt to understand her mental gymnastics on this issue anymore. If anyone is sending death threats, stop. Full stop. It’s never okay and it continues to hurt more than just the trans community.

May we know your opinion regarding Rowlings' statements? Since you asked us first, some here might be curious if you'd be willing to share your own view on the matter. Thanks a million One second I'm a troll, then suddenly the troll is me.

She infamously shared a story years and years ago (before the trans views) about how she once wished she was a boy when she was younger and how she chose the byline of J K Rowling because it sounded male. She also had bad experiences with men so she now projects massively. It’s sad that millennials won’t just not support the Harry Potter reboot or any of the old films to show some solidarity for actual discriminated people she’s ACTIVELY using their money to ruin their lives and experiences in the UK.

I’m happy to be that millennial, and proud to be called elitist by a billionaire indirectly. I love far too many transpeople offline to be otherwise. Ilia Malinin 3,222
i don't give a f*ck what she thinks. trans women are women, not men trying to invade spaces. trans men are men, not "autistic little girls who are confused." f*ck her. Yeah it's more common of a notion than a lot of people realize. If I'm accurately remembering the last polls I looked at, only 37% of people in the US agree with the sentiment that "trans women are women", and while higher in the UK, it's still only 46-49%. I'll admit that I thought the numbers would be higher, because for years most people in my orbit expressed support for that belief. It was only recently that I learned how non-unanimous the feeling is among certain populations as a whole.

It would be one thing if she just had her beliefs, which she is entitled to, but she's been so radicalized into this obsessive crusade that she carries out with snark and disrespect. It's quite pathetic how she wakes up every day and feeds more into this rather than doing (...waves arms around...) anything else. AsleepOnTheCeiling 7,072
6 hours ago, gagzus said: Also “passable politics” and something we don’t talk about is how engrained sex is in the minds of transphobes. I’ve seen many men online and in public who are “fine” and even attracted to passable trans women, even recently I saw a video of a trans girl who (admittedly wasn’t helping the cause) was passable and just because she was now “hot” because of the surge, the man she was interviewing literally said “if they all looked like you id have no problem.” Straight Men’s problem is whether they’re passable and f*ckable, straight women’s problem is their fear of being replaceable, and queer people’s problem is that white and often straight passing queers thought they’d be left alone after gay marriage became legal—so they see it as trans people bringing too much attention to them. I could be completely wrong but I feel like a lot of women are so distrustful of men that they are more inclined to believe a man is lying about his sex to manipulate them in vulnerable places. Which isn't surprising given how horrible men can be and how forgiving society is towards them. Look at the Brock Turner case for example. Men don't face consequences for their actions, especially in cases of assault. So the way some women feel they need to protect themselves is to gatekeep spaces like the bathroom. It's sad and I understand where that view comes from. And I don't blame the women, I blame society and how we treat men.
