Your First Listening Experience: Bad Romance

I was in the car in 2009 with my mum after shopping and BR came on the radio, I said "mum who is that?" because I liked the song and she said "Lady Gaga" and from then on I was obsessed. I think I knew of Poker Face because it came on MTV but I didn't really know of Gaga properly until BR.

but i saw the single art and clicked play and it was the radio edit so it started with the RAH RAH and i was GAGGED !!!!!!!

For me, we used to have a local radio station called Galaxy FM (which later became Capital FM and then the massive well known Capital UK, the Jingle Bell Ball used to be held here in the North East too.) 

They used to do a segment called “Future Hits” and because they were localised they got away with playing album tracks, unreleased track's and demos. They used to play Bad Romance’s demo WITH the Burim tag  and that was the first time I ever heard it. They also did the same to Alejandro and the Telephone demos which leaked at the same time as Bad Romance’s.

They used to call the Alejandro demo “Don’t Call My Name” which is a throwback.

I was outside playing with the neighbours kids and I heard the final chorus from a distance coming from my living room tv. Before i could make it to my house the song was already over i didn't even get the chance to  see the video or the artist but I was immediately obsessed with the little part I could remember. I kept scrolling through TV channels like MTV, trace etc hoping to come across it again and sure enough, as the mega smash hit that it is, it wasn't long before it came on another channel. Finding out it was a gaga song after all was surprising but not surprising at the same time

I will never forget it! I was 14, doing my chores, with the music channel on TV. I heard some "rah rahs" which are quite uncommon in music so I looked at the TV and the video was mesmerizing. I cared more about the video than the song at first and I watched til the end. Later that day during the evening I typed some **** like rah rah or gaga ohlala on google and the Bad Romance video came up. Watched again and fell in love with the song.

The rest is history!

There we were, in Paparazzi’s single era, and I got in my car and turned on the radio, Bad Romance was on and I could tell it was her. I had to pull over and listen because I was so shocked and amazed.

I was in uni in class and I was watching the McQueen stream and the song played. Mind blown.

I saw this early club video from Bad Romance on YouTube before the offical video came out - i liked her since Just Dance - but with Bad Romance i became obsessed and knew it is iconic.

I remember not liking it very much when I heard it for the first time 

I was like oh okay maybe this is not for me let me get back listening to Just Dance and Poker Face 

Its crazy to think about it because we were actual KIDS at the time and I don’t think a kid is supposed to enjoy a song like BR

But one day I listened to it again and it clicked sooo hard and then I decided to stan this crazy lady for the rest of my life

I just remember thinking how dramatic and over the top it was.  lol Watching the video was the really memorable moment for me, though - when she set the bed on fire and was  standing in that dramatic pose in front of the blaze, I was SOLD.

I was in the middle school and at the time I was a basketball player in the junior class and my coach was giving me ride everyday also I had a huge crush on my coach. 

One day, again he was giving me a ride in his rundown car and bad romance stared to play, interestingly he was singing along with it and I didn't know it was Gaga at the time. I was thinking she was a fashion designer because of the meat dress controversy.

At that time, I just really like how everything is white and chic and the dance moves.
