Scumbags. This is such a reactionary stance... Every new development that makes some jobs obsoletes create many more jobs. That's part of the cycle of life... This isn't a comparable case to things like automation. Automated machinery still needed some degree of operators and required an expansion of maintenance roles. GenAI applications aren't efficiency based, they're replacement based. Why pay for a graphic designer to produce content for your business when you can do it yourself? And what job is created by doing it yourself... Why hire junior coders if you can use AI to produce code at a far faster and cheaper rate? And what jobs are created by removing those junior roles for the human workforce? What jobs are created by the GenAI expansion? Anyone who spends 5 minutes looking at the areas of investment and expansion for the current global tech industry can see a very clear trajectory from the AI and Robotics industry. And its not a good one for anyone who lacks significant wealth. The gays know how to party

You accept this and move on, or you get left behind... but how are people supposed to gain entry into these industries when all the easy stuff is overtaken by AI? how does a junior designer ascend to senior designer without any of the experience needed? and what happens when this rapidly evolves into being capable of more complex generation? when a fully functional video game can be generated without entire teams of artists, coders, managers and interns? 100s of employees GONE because you only need 3 to keep an eye on the machine and make sure it works how are these people supposed to adapt, as you suggest, to survive against the cheaper option when everything else in life goes up in price? take a lower paycheck? sell their car? eat one meal a day? all these 100s of people can't be retrained to work with AI. some of them are too old, some of them can't afford a second/third round of student loans and most importantly, the companies only need a handful of employees now, instead of the 100s of positions before the AI came along so there's simply no space, even if they were happy to retrain and learn how AI works and when all those people are RAPIDLY made redundant and flood the job market, what then? seriously, what do you suggest for these people left behind? go work in fast food? become cleaners? an entire generation of degree owners now stuck on a cash register job that's usually intended for students to help pay their way through their studies. the rest of their lives on minimum wage and then they go home and depressingly watch a ChatGPT generated tv show that's stolen one liners from Friends and Two Broke Girls with actors that don't even exist that have won AI Emmys? GenAI has been a thing in Photoshop for a while, powered by Firefly, you can generate text styles, pictures, flyers/ads/postcards layouts and artworks as well.. And before GenAI, Adobe Express / Canva free versions provided anything you need to create flyers and the rest without the need to hire a professional.. so basically, Adobe and Canva are killing their own industry. You're missing the point though (although I agree to an extent about killing it's own industry). Yes, prior to GenAI, people were able to use freemium software to shortcut the graphic designers out of the process to cut costs. But there was still a requirement for the shortcut user to actually use the software via manual processes. My organisation does this still, and it's regularly farmed off to interns to pad out their schedule because the staff find it time consuming. GenAI massively reduces the manual process to a few short text prompts. And if you are a regular user, this system becomes even quicker for you. So it's not an augmentative technology. It doesn't augment manual work processes, it replaces them. The gays know how to party
TheMontebello 1,546
I love Olivia and like Chappell but I don't like this at all if it really is AI (and I think it is). They can afford a real artist to do that work and it wouldn't have ended up that sloppy either. Edit: It is not as bad if it was used along with real animation at least. And I agree that Olivia probably didn't know if that was the case. I'm not justifying it or something, it's simply a shitty fact. Your organization already replaced professional graphic designers with these freemium software, because it's easier and quicker to choose a template, insert the text and pics and move on to the next.. you can create a nice amount of flyers in one day. it's fast food, but in graphic design. I just want to make it clear, I'm not pro genAI at it's current state, it's a wild west out there.. and it's actually not so difficult to find the perfect balance of it legally, we're like 2-3 years since the GenAI boom, and nothing has been done to put some orders in it and to ensure that people will not lose their job and to ensure the protection of the property of the artists. but as usual, politicians don't understand sh-t and will make a move when it's already too late (like with social media). I don‘t know why, but this just contextualized a culture shift I couldn‘t quite identify … instead of being told I “talk White,” now it‘s significantly more some iteration of “You sound AI” … not sure what it says about critical thought, human interaction, or cultural literacy, but just something that surfaced to mind … and, of the course, it‘s anecdotal, so not applicable to the general population, but empirical all the same

I am in architectural design, and we use it as inspiration or for generating options. In the end it cant replace us, because it can replace us as designers with feeling of how a building should work and feel. But for inspiration it helps
