Well, AI is being used to exploit and hurt people. That's the thing.

The technology itself is good, great even. If it were a publicly owned entity, kinda like vaccines and other "for the greater good" tech, instead of being weaponized by the rich to het richer, we'd probably universally love it.

I think it's pretty obvious when people say they hate AI they're referring to the intentions of the people who currently control it and the methods through which it currently operates.

AI is here to stay, like the internet, smartphones etc.

Get used to it friends

no.  i'm not going to "get used to" something that is actively taking money from my f*cking pocket.  i'm a graphic artist and graphic designer by trade, freelance, and get no work anymore because anything i can do and charge appropriately for, ai will sh*t out in 2 seconds.  i'm going to be loud as f*ck about my distain for genai.

everyone keeps saying "oh, he's back, he's back!" but the truth is i never left!

Every day I try to see people as innately intelligent and good.

Everyday I'm disappointed by people hell bent on destruction over keeping the treats that keep them docile.

I am REALLY sorry for you!! But you will need to adapt. Offer something that is unique and needs a human view. Its in your best interest because AI isn't going anywhere.

Very true! I'm not denying that AI raises legitimate concerns about artists' rights, consent, working conditions, and job displacement. Those deserve to be taken seriously. But exploitation existed long before AI, from underpaid garment workers to the people mining the materials in our phones, and most people barely think about it when they consume those products. AI is an easier target because it's new and controversial. This technology isn't going away, so I'd rather see people fight for ethical AI, fair compensation, and regulations that protect workers than pretend we can stop progress by demonizing it

some of you guys are VERRRYY close to figuring out that capitalism is the root issue in this thread.

edit: but honestly, it's tiring to see people talking about ''b-but what about nestle!1! what about the diamond miners!1!'' and so on, but only when another related issue is brought up. it just creates some sort of paradox and cycle where you can't care about anything at all because people will use other issues to argue against change. fight for change, people. fight for it, instead of ''adapting and accepting.'' every single one of these issues matters. though i promise you, it somehow always leads back to capitalism LOL

Thats a bit harsh, dont you think?

I understand all of that, thats not a good thing. But it just will be the new reality of the world and imo its better to adapt than get thrown under the bus.

Fighting back is important but you will not change the trajectory of AI completely. Its already getting used EVERYWHERE and its only here for a few years.

The world will be a different one in 5 years. I'd rather be ready for that than close my eyes and get just upset about it.

We can't stop progress (and probably don't want to?) but we can protest how the technology is used and ask for regulations. This type protest has worked a lot of times throughout history it's really not hopeless

We are at the point where all creatives on a project need to sign contracts stating they will not use generative AI in their work process under penalty of legal action.

Otherwise artists have no way to ensure this does not happen to them against their knowledge.

But no. We just need to get used to it and stop complaining about the poison in our water because now people can make their phones do their homework or mash up existing art to make pretty pictures they ask for! 🥺

GenAI is a tool of capitalism.

The technology is being designed specifically to replace workers.

GenAI would no exist if it did not benefit the goal of the CEO class.

I'm just saying you're splitting hairs :laughga:

Hardly anyone complains that AI exists period. When they complain about it they're referring to the greed, corruption, and abuse.
