Maybe a contrarian take, maybe consensus recency bias, but Joanne was much more engaged on the ground than Mayhem … Five Foot Two footage alone carried more energetic mayhem than the LG7 album cycle; good / bad / indifferent, that era was in the trenches … Dive Bar Tour, Super Bowl, Camden Rising, Victoria Secret Fashion Show, etc. etc. it might not have been polished or present in a palpable or familiar way, but, to her own admission, she fought for people to love that album, “because it is loveable”

ASIB and the lithium felt like a clear turning point in how the eras felt and functioned, understandably

To be fair Mayhem had plenty of corporate, industry, and media programming slated and released … and the rollout was deployed like a well-oiled machine …

But, just a neither here nor there reflection on the blink … Joanne, might have felt unfamiliar or detached, and I can definitely see how it might have not connected with the monster consensus, but our girl had those boots on the ground til the heels fell off

I checked out a little toward the second half of the Born This Way era because I was dating a closeted self-hating homo who gave me sh*t for liking Gaga, but I came back for ARTPOP the second the email announcement dropped. But I missed the You and I premiere, the hip injury, the lip injections & brown hair era, etc etc

not us having the same experience, but mine being the start of ARTPOP era :ladyhaha:

he used to purposely say mean sh*t about gaga around me too

also his name was Tim :messga:

tbh I have stanned Gaga throughout all her eras with the same kind of enthusiasm, I don’t care that much about her film career though, none of her movies were that great for me so I would say ASIB era if that counts

Chromatica, oh my god

Nothing felt right… literally nothing.

Most songs were meh at best, same for many visuals, most lyrics were kinda bad if not worse, and let’s not even talk about her voice at the time…

Her collaboration with Blackpink felt completely forced (I bet she doesn’t even know their names), her songs' length proved it was all about charts rather than art. Come on, she didn’t even find the title of her album herself :air:

The way she was talking in interviews was off, you could tell she was in a BAD state

And what made it all worse was the fans collectively pretending that everything was perfectly fine, and that Chromatica was her best album too :icega:

I wasn’t mad or anything though, just genuinely worried

When the Chromatica Ball started, that’s when I went “oooooh we might get her back”, it truly felt like her inner fire was coming back… and it was

Definitely Chromatica. It was the only era where I wavered a lot on how much I liked this album and I thought it was a bit of a disappointment after a nearly 4 year wait. Yet, so many of her fans were loving it and I felt I was the odd one out. I feel somewhat vindicated when I discovered that Gaga hadn't been feeling it when she made it either. She never turns out a bad album but this was one of her rare mid releases (by her standards) for sure.

Most definitely the jazz albums, but now they've become one of my favorites to listen during breakfast and harlequin just makes me forget my troubles and get happy

MAYHEM.

I think the album is her magnum opus as Lady Gaga so far, and I do love it, but I have felt such a disconnect from Gaga throughout the entire era.

on paper, it should be a tie for favorite along with Chromatica because of aesthetics, but it has felt very empty, hollow, and soulless for me. I think that’s more of personal life experience rather than the album or era itself. But that’s okay. Hopefully in the future, I can have a proper connection with it, because it is great
