Then disappeared until the tour announcement and went on tour. Also the ARTPOP app going into negative numbers. In immediate retrospect, somehow Chromatica and Mayhem feel the least “alive” for me … ASIB is down there too, but maybe that’s just the whole lithium-in-hindsight aspect … LG8 already feels generative though … I guess it really is all subjective perspective; vantage variety—the spice of life! I think it depends on what people define as “alive.” Because her modern eras have the disadvantage of a fractured monoculture now. She’s probably the only legacy artists outside of Madonna who’s actually had an “era” still with each project. ASIB she was always somewhere promoting the movie, Chromatica had the disadvantage of COVID but she still managed to have music videos, interviews and a massive world tour. Mayhem was probably the first era since Born This Way where one of her studio albums had a smooth promotional cycle. She did music videos, interviews, lots of live performances and award ceremonies, festivals and collaborations. Then her best world tour arguably in 13/14 years time. On a plus side, at least she ain’t like Beyoncé dropping an album and dipping. No interviews, festivals, fan events or even music videos. Just an album and a tour.

I think for me it’s less about the era, and more just that sense of “living” resonance of the artist maybe or some genuine feel of creative spark or agency or just liberation … I know there’s the whole “vibes” backlash, but I think my position is more from just how “alive” it felt to watch her in her element that era … so it’s definitely subjective for me … Mayhem and ASIB definitely fed the industry and marketplace, but you can autopilot quotas—just show up and stick to the script, and repeat until the contract is complete Mayhem was absolutely a well polished machine, but to be fair, the album was largely produced from the comparative isolation of a retrofitted office in Malibu … to her own admission, fueling the fear of creating an origin sound so far away from the community that birthed that frequency … neither here nor there just, again, distance from the creative source, and genuine artists or non-industry creatives in general, starts to feel somewhat lifeless within a capacity But this is all just riffing on “vibes” I guess … just perspective from where we’re positioned! AVeryGagaHolyDick 32,474 Posted yesterday at 10:38 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:38 AM (edited) Top 5 (or 6?) It was good for today’s standards cause artists don’t do **** these days But for Gaga herself? I’d say only Chromatica was less entertaining. First single wasn’t even suppose to be on the album, and the last single …well we don’t even need to talk abt that lol every single released for the fame TFM and btw are GREAT songs and all had great MVs. So doesn’t matter to me if they didn’t have everything PLANNED out and STUCK to said plan, what we got in the end are songs and MVs that are better than half the singles on mayhem . Because DWAS and TDD are skips for me and their MVs are boring Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

I’ll admit TEOG MV is awful but still better than mayhems worst MV Mayhem’s “worst” video is either DWAS or Abra (depending on if you classify DWAS as part of the Mayhem era) and both are 10x better than TEOG. Also, arguably all The Fame music videos were entirely inconsequential besides Poker Face and Paparazzi. Just Dance, LoveGame, BDR, Eh Eh were all fairly meh music videos. Even Poker Face is fairly meh except the first scene really. She didn’t really make a “great” music video until Paparazzi. There’s a reason her fame really peaked and her most iconic publicly known moments didn’t start to happen until the end of The Fame era. For example, Mayhem’s theme is basically the same as ARTPOP’s “I’m Every Icon” concept but actually done well.

I’ll admit TEOG MV is awful but still better than mayhems worst MV I think TEOG is totally beautiful as a video, her expressions and the color palette, the mysterious New York feeling - is one of my favorite videos. It's far from being terrible, even a reduced video can be artistic, which is TEOG. I think that the only video that is unprofessional is unfortunately Million Reasons - all the others on a good to very good level.
