Madonna will always know how to put on a terrific show because she is that B. I have no idea why MTV even bothers with this show considering it just gets worse and worse every year. So since before Gaga even was famous or attended a VMA ceremony? since MTV has prioritised reality tv since the mid 2000s.

Anytime I hear her speak she seems unable to form any articulate thought about her art or the creative process. I don't know, there are quite a few videos of her composing her songs online and explaining how she came up with certain ideas for certain songs. Not saying it couldn't be lies but that that seems a bit much to hide ghostwriters for so long, and she also has writing credits on other artists songs

True, mother fed us that day, but she could have fed us any other place and we would still be fed the same, that was a special night because of Gaga, not because she was at the VMAs (Gaga smashed in Azerbaijan not the VMAs) If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I don't recall pinning a specific time because in the 2000's they were still very much promoting music videos across their stations and we all know that was the peak of TRL. I would say MTV really dropped music videos around 2010 especially when they dropped Music Television from their logo. That's really when their branding in my mind focused more on the reality TV fluff.

That's really when their branding in my mind focused more on the reality TV fluff. MTV started focusing on and had their highest rated shows be reality TV since the late 90s. Reality TV viewership overtook music videos in 1998 officially with The Real World and music videos/TRL or music related shows never overtook reality TV again. The Real World, Jackass, Cribs, True Life, Making The Video, The Challenge, Punk’d, The Osborne's, Room Raiders, The Hills were some of the most viewed shows on MTV at the time. Reality TV has been MTV’s dominant programming since 2003. TRL had an almost 50% viewership drop in the early 2000s. And it was the lowest viewed programme by 2008 when Gaga appeared on it. MTV stopped prioritising music in the 90s and the entirety of the 2000s up until today has been focused on reality TV. Also funnily enough the highest viewed VMAs at the time was in 1999 and 2002, then they never achieved similar numbers again till 2010. Which was the year Gaga wore the meat dress. The most viewed music related programme in MTV history is the 2011 VMAs, followed by the 1999 ones then 2002, then 2010. And rounding out the top 5 is Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged. Nothing music related ever eclipsed reality tv viewership except those VMAs and Unplugged. The 2011 VMAs is their most watched programme of all time followed by the Season 4 premiere of Jersey Shore. Also another fun fact; they removed “Music Television” from their branding in 2010 specifically because at the time (pre VMAs 2010) their most watched shows were almost exclusively reality TV shows.
