While Madonna has collabed or associated with a lot of the newer generation of female artists, she's never gone near those who she sees as a legit threat. That's why she never truly got on with Gaga because unlike a lot of other popstars, Gaga is a genuine multi-threat talent, a touring force, the critics and awards shows love her, she's even done successful movies and she's highly successful. So, naturally, I imagine she's been aware that Taylor has been breaking her records of late and has overtaken her in many ways. I suspect it's way Madonna doesn't bring her up in any way and has never expressed a desire to work with her even though she's normally all over the biggest names. She seems awkward in that photo and it's maybe because she was afraid of looking shady if she wasn't a good sport and posed for a photo but you can tell she's thinking: "Her fans will caption this "the queen passes on her crown" or something, I just know it!" But in any case, they did this in March 2015. Taylor had not long released 1989 at that point and while she was of course big, she only had 3 #1 singles and 4 #1 albums at that point. 11 years later, she's on 12 #1 singles and 15 #1 albums and has the best selling tour of all time and edging towards Madonna's overall sales. Now a proper threat. She also hasn't involved herself with other major female titans over the years like Beyonce, Rihanna and Mariah (neither of them like each other, it's known). She likes to align herself more with the newer generation who's mid-range or who is just having a bit of a moment. But as soon as they start getting too big, she distances herself from them.
