UPDATE:

Their commitments as part of the merger contract are as follows;

• Operations in California will stay - cannot sell the Paramount or Warner Bros. studio lots

• Invest an additional $300M annually in U.S. film production 

• Obligated to release at least 30 movies theatrically every year

• Establishing a third-party, independent board to oversee CNN and CBS News in order to maintain the news outlets’ editorial independence

Their quota post merge is they must collectively make 30+ movies a YEAR which is insanity. There’s no way all those movies will be good.

Collectively they currently release about 20 or so combined I believe.

True but having to force 10 additional movies a year for no reason will mean a decline in quality I think. And considering who is gonna be running them post-merge I can see them having more content that’s… not as universal shall we say.

I think people who work in all the various jobs in the entertainment industry will be thrilled for more guaranteed work, but I have no doubt Ellison will find a way around the 30 movie quota.

Apparently Gavin Newsom is the reason it was allowed to go ahead. They were going to stop it through litigation and delay. He pushed hard behind the scenes claiming they were being too anti-trustworthy of corporations.

Oh no! The person closely tied to OpenAI who has invested billions into building data centers has also agreed to a 30+ movies a year? However will they do it. 
 

This has been expected since the start of the year and it's pathetic how little the industry in their country fought against it. It's gonna be a dumpster fire before it implodes. Guess we're going back to regional movies. Tatort here I cooooome
