I really like him, but his career has gottttt to be the worst of the main 3 HP folks if he’s going to come back to this franchise
 

I can only speculate, but between this and the johnny depp Scrooge movie, I’m assuming the bills are piling up 🫣

Like, there's HP subreddits & other fan spaces. If you want to talk about HP and be safe from criticism go there. 
But it's silly to come onto a site which is predominantely populated by LGBTQ+ people and being shocked at the idea that people here aren't prepared to turn around to Trans users on this site and say they're not important to us.

You said I should go to another space to discuss, but this thread was under entertainment news and in the original post there’s no undertone of talking about one side or another, it was neutral so I thought I could share my thoughts which apparently I can’t. It's not a misquote. It's the reality of your actions. 

You've repeatedly said you refuse to give up your connection to the IP, despite what that connection to the IP means for the community - especially those of us in the UK where she has funded a number of successful anti-Trans lawsuits that have come into effect and already started causing significant harm to the community. 

You are welcome to share your thoughts - the issue here is you're annoyed that people have shared theirs and those opinions are highlighting the deficits with your position. 

You're trying to have your cake and eat it. That's not how the world works. If you give money to the HP IP, that goes to JKR. And she uses that to inflict actual harm on Trans people and the wider LGBTQ+ community. You can say how much you disagree with her all you want, but any penny you spend on HP is a penny she gets a % of. And so far she has successfully used that money to enact the first rollback of LGBTQ+ rights in the UK in 40 years. She has used that money to attack Rape Crisis Centres that support Trans people. She has used that money to help enshrine the freedom to hate trans people into UK law.

JK Rowling is quite a vocal critic of trans women in spaces labeled “women”, and publicly lends her support and fortune to politicians and causes that aim to bar them from those spaces. Because of that, many people in the community draw a direct correlation between money given to her and those policies.

As someone stated above, there are plenty of trans and non-binary identifying folks on this website who oppose those views & are not going to passively view excitement for a Harry Potter project and not make their opposition known. This just isn’t the venue for it. 

You’re free to like whatever you like, but the reaction can’t be a surprise here.

Jeez. I apologize to my trans and non binary members here. I apologize for upsetting anyone. I understand things that are going on, I will try to do better and next time think before I say anything. Also, to those jumping down my throat, there’s a thing called tact and it’s really great for starting a useful dialogue instead of a barrage of disdain.

well you opened this dialogue saying you weren't ashamed to be a fan, which is quite a hostile take towards trans people because you've just said out loud "i'm completely comfortable with helping fund anti-trans movements"

a website with a strong LGBTQ+ community isn't going to respond well seeing somebody choose a mediocre wizard book over their rights

starting with “I’m excited for the new Harry Potter show and I’m not ashamed” kind of implies that you’re aware there’s opposition to it, but your arm is already up and you don’t care

 

@TailoredGuilts I don’t want you to beat yourself up over this, but yeah maybe taking a second to think of the audience you’re putting your words in front of would indeed be a wise thing. it never hurts!

I admitted to a dichotomy of hating her and at the same time still enjoying the IP and being excited for this casting and then I expanded of the show. I regret what I said and starting this argument. I sincerely apologize for upsetting my trans/ non binary members here, it was never my intention! I will think twice before I post here again and choose my words more wisely. Can we please move on.

also…. To everyone hating on anything HP related… I get it but …I choose “death to the author” and the world is all ours now. I will not let the horrible TERF ruin my joy of my childhood and an incredible book series and movies. She’s tarnished a lot but my fan boy still remains strong… in addition , I can’t wait for the HBO show. And I’m not ashamed about it. F**k JK and I will still enjoy my HP pleasures while I can still get them.

Adobe once pissed me off so bad when they charged me for cancelling a subscription (the terms I agreed to, apparently, were so obscure I didn’t even know about it), I swore I would pirate every single one of their programs ever since. This was a monthly subscription that I had been paying for almost a year but still got penalized anyway. I was one of their “good” customers.
