Songs that gain heat get playlisted by Spotify etc
Playlists then get used by stores for BGM, lazy bars/DJs needing party playlists etc and then also casual listeners who just put on a "Hits of the Week" playlist and treat it like its radio (my driving instructor does this, its odd). 
That means the streams stay high, so the algorithim keeps it in the playlist and also uses it for the autoplay feature. 
And boom, chart stability through passivity. 

Lol I think I misread their statement, I initially thought they meant that it’s easier for songs to chart higher (thus making BP seem like a bigger flop than it actually is), but you’re right on the nose when it comes to the way charts operate nowadays :messga:

Yes but Top top 40 and contemporary radio have always built their playlist by the BBH100

 

I'll concede that being outside the top 20 is more of a moderate hit but top 40 being considered a hit has always been a thing
