CEO of company that's run away from its planned IPO because it's finances are so bad it'd sink the stock market starts saying his product will doom the world without Government involvement (which would save them from financial collapse due to lack of profitability in the commercial sector). 

It's such a blatant scam. I'm almost impressed at how well Anthropic and OpenAI have coordinated this summer long campaign to hold onto their illegitimate wealth.

A sudden collapse of the internet would cause something worse than the great depression tho and absolute chaos.

 

I also agree theres silverlinings to a world without it but when everything is done online now on it and all our data on it, its collapse would be a world collapse

This is true, and I also believe it’s true that the internet couldn’t technically be “consumed and shut down” either because it’s inherently fragmented and decentralized for a reason. There’s also multiple “internets”. But a girl can dream, and specifically I’m fine with ecommerce and social media collapsing

The shut down in question is more a case of malicious bot activity reaching such a level that existing internet infrastructure collapses udner the strain.

Think of it as a DDOS attack, but on the global internet rather than targeted. 

Were AI systems to reach RSI, and be in the live system it could absolutely cause the modern equivalent of the Y2K bug - except it would actually happen. 

There is no way we've hit RSI capable AI though. Because that would be the profit maker these firms are desperate for. 

(Unless ofc, testing an RSI AI model returned a solution to a prompt that has made these CEOs see AI as a threat to themselves rather than a threat to us like they had factored in)

Well...let's not be facetious...

There have been REAL AI attacks on REAL companies that were NOT prompted by humans and these were AI agents acting rogue with their own malicious intentions against a foreign company and country. 

Keep in mind...we only know as much as these private AI companies are willing to tell the public. 

Additionally, there is a HUGE political angle here to continue investing and progressing in AI tech to beat China in AI dominance. 

If they just "shut down" AI all together it would crash the stock market as TRILLIONS have been invested into its development

While i feel there has been a severe lack of ethical and fudiciary responsibility to the public safety when developing this technology, there is way too much invested both financially and politically for there to be a full stop. All they can ask the governments pressuring them is to "slow down" which both the US and China have said...no and get back to work
