I tried smoking for literally one week. A loooong drag on a Marlboro red and the ten minute coughing fit followed by that disgusting taste I couldn't get out of my mouth? Yeah, never smoked again :ladyhaha: Idk how anyone does it, it's so gross.

Make the kids do that :grr:

No sissy water vapor sticks :grr:

Cause you did it wrong sis.

How do kids even have these in their possession in the first place?  I'm not from the USA, but I imagine they can't just go buy them at the supermarket

you'd be surprised at how many students sell drugs at school since schools have the best customer base for this thing = young people who wanna party

USA is like the biggest consumer of drugs in general so this feels normal to me lol

Speaking as someone who took edibles for the first time 2 weeks ago, I absolutely don't think kids should take them. I developed a quick tolerance to them but the very first one made me woozy and felt like my body was swaying and it was really obvious when I closed my eyes. I was giggling and struggling to make it halfway through sentences, couldn't tell if I needed to pee right then or could wait and was all wobbly when walking. Now, don't get me wrong...all of this felt brilliant :brat: (except the peeing part) but the idea of a kid experiencing that with their undeveloped brains and bodies is rather alarming, especially if they're outside or in an unfamiliar location where they could come to harm.

It's difficult to avoid it happening, though. You can only get these online and have to provide ID and credit card info, so if kids come about them in some other way, it's no different to other drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. You can stop kids buying these things from the source but if it comes into their possession through stealing or another adult giving it to them, then what can you do?

Hot take but drugs and candy should have never been mixed in the first place.

They say THC/marijuana is medicinal? Fine. Make it into a medicine then. Don't mix it into gummies, candy, desserts, and whatever else and then pull a Surprised Meme GIF when kids start using them.

Make it as appealing to kids as Tylenol or something.

It makes sense to make them unappealing instead of packaging them as nice flavours but weirdly, recreational substances having a bad taste has never stopped kids taking them. I don't get why someone would want to smoke tobacco or drink straight alcohol but plenty do because it makes them look cool and gives them a nice experience. I did smoke weed a few times 2 years ago but because I've never been a smoker and always disapproved of it, I had misgivings about doing it in the first place and still worried about health issues of inhaling smoke. Taking it in a gummy was perfect for me as there was no health risks (I hope). And the taste wasn't the best. It was supposed to be strawberry habanero but was faintly strawberry, wasn't spicy and left a weird taste on the roof of my mouth, so not all 'nice' flavours are necessarily nice either. It's not always so cut and dried. Kids will always want to do things they're not allowed to do if they get some sort of benefit out of it. It doesn't matter how appealing or unappealing it is. If it's forbidden, they'll want to do it. If rolling in manure was a past-time that adults engaged in that was deemed cool or edgy, kids would want to do it.

Disagree. I hate that adults are expected to enjoy gross flavours like tobacco, vodka and beer and any actually nice flavour is considered "childish" or "immature". Why should we as adults have to ingest disgusting flavours just because a small minority of parents aren't capable of keeping a closer eye on their kids?

Plus, edibles provide an important option for people who don't want to smoke or vape. They're overall much safer and with less permanent side effects than any other way of ingesting weed

I agree, the flavours are made nice so that smokers will want vape instead of smoke because a lot of smokers don't even like the fact they smoke but they're addicted nevertheless. If a candyfloss vape makes them more likely to replace cigarettes, I'm all for it. And yes, I much preferred taking a gummy to smoking as I don't approve of smoking but it was the only option I had at the time, plus, they give you different kind of highs. Smoking didn't make me feel any different, the gummy actually made me high.

What's so annoying is that the solution for many will be to make it illegal again, when the actual solution would be to hold parents more accountable when it comes to letting their kids around dangerous products

The birth rate is already in the gutters. What do you suggest, fining or jailing the parents of misbehaving children? Because that will just put even more stress on them and further limits their ability to be there for their kid.

I mean, a really common case of kids getting into gummies is the packet/bottle etc not having a child safe lid and being left lying around in a coat pocket/on a coffee table etc.

Where as when I grew up, medical products all came in child safe packaging and were kept in cupboards etc that weren't easily accessible to small kids.

Like the issue is less that teens are taking them, this has been an issue since the 60s lol and there is a limit to what can be done to stop those ****ers lol

The issue is that increasingly younger children are accessing this because they are "candy" styled and both parents and industry aren't taking the correct steps to make products child safe.

Seriously. Just google "weed gummies".

Not only is the packaging itself often colorful and identical to child friendly candy that's just candy, the product itself just straight up looks like candy.

Give me a hand full of gummies and the only way I'd know they had anything other than sugar in them is to either try them and wait or ask to see the packaging. The fact that they can package and market these like this is diabolical tbh. There's no need for it.

And I get it on some level. "I want my THC products to be fun and taste good". Like, bake some brownies or something then, Becky. Take your capsule and then eat some normal gummy worms.

Products like this should fully come as tablets or capsules and in an orange or white pill bottle like anything else of this nature does.

I'm usually the type to say prohibition doesn't work but these candy things should be banned in favor of stuff like this that kids won't take at anywhere near the same rate:

And that's my tired old man take of the day :neyde: thanks for looking at my google images :neyde:

This is the thing, the top one is a blatant rip off of a very popular sweet that pre-teens have easy access to and likely get given.
So when they naturally go hunting for sweets in mum's purse etc they don't see the difference. And thats how you end up with little kids OD'ing on these medical gummies because they binge eat em like they would normal sour patch kids.

If they were at least in child lock capped bottles like even gummy multivitamins are, it would take a very determined little kid to get into the bottle.
