Oriane 22,990 Posted yesterday at 03:45 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:45 PM (edited) Hey everyone! I’m really excited to share my new album, Unbroken Circles! Here’s a link to the different platforms where you can listen to it: https://onerpm.link/272205177343 And also a link to the lyric videos (you can also see some of the older music videos I made on my channel!): And this is the booklet I designed, with the help of friends: I started working on Unbroken Circles more than 4 years ago. It was created out of a deep pain and feelings that I already talked about in previous albums. It all started with a situation that brought back years of unresolved feelings of loneliness and rejection, and I had to dive deep into all of that. This album is for the little girl I once was, who's only ever wanted to be loved for who she was, and who is still hidden somewhere inside of me. Life has turned me into a different person, but like an endless cycle, there are things that always come back and repeat themselves eventually. Unbroken Circles is about all of that, and so much more. It does feel weird to listen to these songs now that this is mostly behind me, but the situations that led to these feelings will always be a part of my life, and it's a continuous struggle to learn how to balance these things and feel at peace with that. During that period, I listened to Rina Sawayama and Babymetal on repeat and found the mix of sweetness and harshness comforting and liberating. I had also been a huge fan of Who you selling for by The Pretty Reckless for years. I was craving to hear similar music and wanted to mix all these sounds together to tell my story. This album has strong southern rock influences with hints of metal and baroque pop. Here’s a bit of an explanation of every song, because I think it helps understanding the lyrics and how these songs create the storyline of the album: Ghosttown Spoiler The idea for this song is that loneliness is more than just a feeling, it’s a thing you’re carrying with you everywhere. I wanted to say that, sometimes, no matter how many people surround you, you still feel lonely because you feel like you don't really belong anywhere - as if you were a ghost among other ghosts. And sometimes it feels like the only people you have, who will be here no matter what, are the ghosts from your past who still live in your head. Ugly Duckling Spoiler Ugly Duckling is about missing a sense of belonging, about being a kind of ugly duckling in society and it's about how I have tried to deal with it, sometimes in very unhealthy ways. When reality is too harsh, it seems easier to be in denial and tell yourself a different story to avoid facing the truth. It’s easier to pretend that you don’t care, that you don’t like people, that you prefer being alone. And the funny thing is, everyone will start believing it, but you won’t. This song has a lot of anger towards myself. It’s also about that little voice in my head that just keeps pushing me and not always in nice ways. Many of the lyrics are actually almost direct quotes or references to the original fairy tale. Dressed in red Spoiler Dressed in red is the beginning of my descent into hell. I was feeling very bad about myself and felt disconnected from my body. I felt a lot of anger and violence and I tried to convey this in metaphorical ways. TW It’s a song about self-harm and I used sexual references to make it more disturbing by drawing parallels between these two subjects. I wanted to put a lot of focus on the body, on physical touch, and the vulnerability of nakedness. It’s not supposed to glamorize this subject, but rather show the creating process I use to deal with bad emotions. Death Palace Spoiler Death Palace is the next step of my descent into hell. I was thinking a lot about death back then and this song reflects that. It’s also about the phenomenon that I have seen in myself and in others, where the worse you're doing mentally or in your life, the more selfish and self-centered you get, and the less you care about others. And it’s probably just a survival mechanism, but it’s really scary to witness this happening to yourself, especially when you used to care more. I wanted the song to be a contrast between that emptiness I felt inside (the verses) and how violent such thoughts towards yourself can be (the chorus). A few seconds of heaven Spoiler A few seconds of heaven is about going through something so bad that you start looking for any solution to your problem. You start thinking that you would do anything to ease the pain, even something dangerous. I used to wonder why people would start using drugs, knowing how bad and destructive it can be. The song is about being in such a place that you finally understand why someone would start. Being in my own head was just so painful when I wrote the album, and I had zero moment of peace or joy. If there was anything that could take me out of that just for a few seconds, and take me out of my mind and make me escape the hell that was in my head, I would do it, no matter the consequences, or the effects it would have on the long term. 7 years I Spoiler This next song is a song in two parts, and this is the first part. This first part is about a friend that I lost a long time ago, and back when that happened, I really missed him a lot, and for a long time. Part of the reason why it hurt that much was because he was kind of the only person who was close to me and knew me that much at a certain point in my life, and losing him felt like losing that part of me. Hurt people hurt people Spoiler This next song comes from a phrase I heard, Hurt people hurt people (I actually learnt it from Gaga when she was promoting House of Gucci). And I thought I could really understand it, and relate to it. When you're hurt by people in your life, you become another person, and it reshapes your behaviors and affects the way you treat people, whether you want it or not. And the cycle continues. This song is about acknowledging it and also about losing yourself so much that, for a moment, you think it’s fine to continue the cycle and become the bad person. 4 lives Spoiler 4 lives is the central song of the album in terms of meaning. I was inspired by a few things Gaga said, about being hit so hard by life that it totally changes you, and you become a different person. It's almost like the old version of you dies, and everyone who met you after that never really got to meet the real you. But the song also raises the question: what does it actually mean to be you? Was the old version of you more real than what you are right now? Or do you just accept that the person you've become is the real you? As time goes by and life changes you, it becomes harder to find the things that define you and are still true after all this time. 7 years II Spoiler This is the second part of 7 years. This song is about a different person I was very close to, but who was very toxic and had a bad influence on my life. I was so scared to cut ties with her because I thought history would repeat, and I was scared of going through all of that again. So I just kept her in my life for way too long. And when I was finally able to cut her out of my life, I just felt relieved and relaxed. So these two songs together are about the fact that you can’t know in advance how you’re going to feel about a certain situation. This is an album about cycles, but cycles are not identical. Aurora Spoiler Aurora started as a song about insomnia, but it became much bigger than that. It's also a song about overthinking all the time, and trying to turn this into something productive - in my case, songwriting. The song is also a reference to Sleeping Beauty, and is about seeing your life as a fairy tale and realizing that life doesn’t really work that way. I wish that sometimes I could be like Aurora, sleeping for a long time to escape my problems and not have to think. Mrs Bubbles Spoiler Mrs Bubbles is the dialogue between the little child that I was, and that's still in me somewhere, and the person who grew up, the person that I have become, who's built a shield around herself to protect herself. This is about the little girl trying to reach out to say “you don't have to do that, you don’t have to keep that shield around yourself”. This song is also a big reference to the BioShock games (which is where my artist name comes from!). Almost all the lyrics are quotes from Little Sisters in the game. It’s almost like the Little Sister and the Big Daddy represent the little child and the adult having this dialogue inside of me. The end of the album is me trying to reconnect with myself and move forward. Only in America though, so I won't see her 43 minutes ago, HotLikeMexico said: Going to listen. ghost town already reminds me of Chelsea Wolfe, and St. Vincent’s last album “All Born Screaming” I’m already loving this. It's funny you mention that, I listened a bit to St. Vincent and it didn't click for the most part, but Flea is by far my favorite song of hers! 30 minutes ago, Max said: I will listen tomorrow when I‘m home… Tourdate in Vienna when?
