Benjamin Netanyahu was personally alerted by the president of the United Arab Emirates that Hamas was planning a large-scale offensive against Israel a week before its 7 October 2023 attack, but did not act on the warning, according to a book by Haaretz reporters.

The claim, which comes amid a crucial election campaign, prompted Israeli opposition leaders to describe the prime minister as “unfit” for office, even as Netanyahu denounced the report as an “absolute lie” and denied he spoke to the Emirati leader at that time.

Haaretz said the Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, later killed by Israel, had warned a former Palestinian official that the militants were preparing “a terrifying operation” which he described as an “earthquake”.

According to the report, the UAE president, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, spoke to Netanyahu a week and a half before the attack, and told him Hamas was planning a major operation.

The allegations, published in Haaretz on Tuesday, pile more pressure on the Israeli prime minister who has already faced heavy criticism for his handling of events before the 7 October attacks.

Hamas militants killed more than 1,200 people and took another 251 people hostage during the offensive. Hundreds of Israelis, mostly soldiers, have been killed in continued fighting from consequent wars in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. Israel’s retaliatory offensive has left most of Gaza in ruins and killed more than 73,000 Palestinians.

The claims are contained in the book Hostages: 843 Days of Abandonment, which, its authors say, is based on dozens of sources in Israel and worldwide, including very senior officials.

According to Haaretz, bin Zayed communicated frequently with senior Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu and the Israeli president Isaac Herzog, with a UAE diplomat delivering a secure phone to the Israeli prime minister for the conversations.

A week and a half before 7 October, the reporters say, bin Zayed called Netanyahu from the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi and, in a 45-minute call, warned that Sinwar was planning a major operation which the Emirati leader was concerned could destabilise the region.

To bin Zayed’s surprise, Netanyahu reacted calmly to the news, the report said.

Netanyahu’s office on Tuesday denied that the UAE gave him a warning. “If there was any relevant information, it was passed through intelligence channels between the two countries,” the statement said.

I think he can bring a change, especially with the settlements I believe.

But he pretty much believes in settlements.

Anyway, whatever government is formed, I hope Smotrich and Ben-Gvir won't be a part of it.

Netanyahu Demands Haaretz Apology And 1M NIS Damages Over Spurious Allegations In News Report

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to sue the newspaper Haaretz and three of its journalists for more than 2.5 million shekels, or roughly $800,000, over a report alleging that he was personally warned by the president of the United Arab Emirates about plans by Hamas to launch a major attack against Israel days before Oct. 7, 2023.

Netanyahu’s attorneys sent a formal notice Wednesday to Haaretz and journalists Shlomi Eldar, Ruth Yuval and Uri Misgav, demanding that the report be removed from the newspaper’s website and social-media accounts and that the paper publish a prominent retraction and apology, according to a report by Channel 14.

The letter also demands 1 million shekels, roughly $300,000, as an out-of-court settlement. The newspaper and journalists were given 72 hours to comply. If they do not, Netanyahu says he will file a civil defamation lawsuit seeking at least 2.5 million shekels, in addition to legal fees and expenses.

Netanyahu has categorically denied the central allegation. Through his attorney, Uriel Nizri, Netanyahu described the report as an “absolute fabrication” and a malicious falsehood. His office has said that Netanyahu did not receive such a warning from either the UAE or Egypt and did not have the alleged conversation with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Oh, like 9/11! Didn't we know this already? Alright then.

We didn't know about 9/11 specifically.

There were alarm bells and thoughts that Al Qaeda operatives would bomb an embassy or take a plane hostage but the government underestimated them and didn't expect them to use commerical planes as missiles.

Unless I missed something which is totally possible 'cause I would believe that Bush himself perpetuated 9/11 via George clones at this point :cheeky:

Whimsical bitch

Hopefully yahoo will lose in these upcoming elections and the right wing government will finally be stopped.

I don't think that people who commit genocide care about the result of elections unfortunately. The entire government is complicit, and many Israelis are completely brainwashed...

The truth is there will be a large fallout after this. I genuinely do not want anti-semitism, but we as Americans have to understand that there is a zionist occupation of our government and we have been hoodwinked. We have to understand that there is a difference between good Jewish people and factions of it's religion that are pure evil. Just like there are incredible and amazing Muslim people but there is a real homophobic evil segment of extremists within their religion. Just like there are amazing Christians in the United States who believe in the power of Christ's love but within that religion is a huge swath of people who are hateful and evil and vile and use God's name to control and manipulate people. This isn't conspiracy. Its at that point where we have to come to face the reality that religion has gone too far and we cannot survive as a species if we let the ridiculous conspiracy of religions threaten the education and understanding of the realities we are facing: climate disaster, extreme government control ironically through the private sector controlling the government, corporations doing whatever they please, and wide scale violence covered up as "safety and security".

The average American needs to come to terms with the fact that we have been evil and if we really want to become a more perfect union it is upon us the People of the United States to fight the racism, bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and greed of the powerful once again and we need to accept now that we have been a villain in the world and if we are really about freedom and justice like we say we are we need to find a way to hold the powerful accountable.

The United States becoming a giant corporate surveillance state is increasing- and at a faster pace- and this is going to slow our ability to save democracy and the republic.

I actually do not hate America. But I do understand we are having some really messy growing pains right now and our bad behavior needs to change. America needs to get off the drug of self-glamorization and admit it's wrongs- so we can ACTUALLY be the freedom fighters we claim to be.
