I feel the exact opposite i think Gaga sounded like herself and Florence was just stoic, her voice barely moves in the song and sounds so shaky compared to Gaga’s.

I think though Gaga’s learned her lesson thanks to Tony about being herself when she collaborates. I’m sure she also said before how she used to change herself for collaborations — even the first time she worked with Tony you can tell she was changing her style, body language and even tone from the Lady & The Legend documentary.

You can see how she grew into herself in collaborations like Die With a Smile, Runway and her later Jazz work with Tony and then her solo Jazz album.

As a person who loves HYPERPOP, Pc Music, Bubblegum Bass… Actual HYPERPOP is inspired by 90s/early 2000s eurodance and techno like Cascada, Aqua and Scooter. It’s music that was originally created by working class British millennials like Sophie. AG Cook, Hannah Diamond etc and inspired by our (their) youth where you would drink in a park playing sped-up DJ remixes of pop songs. Madonna wasn’t remotely an inspiration for HYPERPOP nor has she ever made it.

It’s origins are in UK Garage, “Donk” music, Happy Hardcore and eurodance.

THESE kind of songs are the literal origins of HYPERPOP, the first literally being the exact song AG cites as his biggest original inspo.

Sjdhdk I feel bad now sorry sister  I’m just passionate about this, because, this genre was predominantly listened to by the people who where the homophobes back in the day in the UK and it’s amazing to me that queer people reclaimed it like 20+ years later. 

Theres loads more influence on the genre now, for example Peaches became a massive influence on the genre because without Peaches early Ayesha Erotica, Slayyyter and Slutpop era Kim Petras (and Charli to a degree) wouldn’t exist.

For me personally, I always thought that American Life was less early hyperpop and more Madonna trying to push the electroclash and folktronica genres to the extreme. Take that and mix it with Madonna and Mirwais intentionally not wanting to make a polished album, which lead to tracks intentionally not be properly mixed. While the album has the spirit of hyperpop in the sense of it being a rebellion against norms, it didn't have that sound itself. American Life actually had its roots (even though she didn't intend on making an album about this subject yet) in Madonnas 1999 Larry King interview where she stated that she was tired of the concept of right and wrong being forced onto pop culture so much. In fact, Hollywood ("Music stations always play the same song, I'm bored with the concept of right and wrong") was originally written for Music, but it didn't make the cut and went onto American Life instead, where with the meaning it fit better. (Especially in the context of her blacklist at the time.) I would still love to hear the Music demo of the song if it ever leaks though.
