As someone who just recently read the novel (but has always had an appreciation for Steinbeck), I am very excited to see how this pans out. I was worried how they'd treat Cathy, but this new trailer gives me new hope that they won't over-sanitize or pathologize her character. By the end of the novel, I was very moved. Steinbeck's prose is humorous, chilling, poetic, and beautiful. I know that there are valid critiques about how he handles some of the characters (especially Cathy), but Steinbeck's use of uncanny prose and tone elevates the text.
