I still think there’s far more dirty and depraved and devastating parts of life than we see and I never realised how deep Israeli propaganda runs because recently I was sat rewatching old 80s and 90s sitcoms… and I counted no less than 80 references to Israel and some to Palestine too.

One reference for instance was from The Nanny with Fran Drescher. Where in one scene they give someone a makeover and call it giving them the “Gaza strip” aka changing how he looks and making him completely new with no trances of his old style or personality. And then later I watched a clip from Friends where they were talking about “that one time I spent a summer in Israel it was so beautiful” for absolutely no reason. And then I watched a clip from Frasier where they said someone’s room looked “more downtrodden than the Gaza Strip”. 

I was not aware of the Israel / Palestine conflict as a child growing up watching these but it’s CRAZY. There’s even a TikTok account called “How Long Til Israel” where they count how long it takes TV shows to mention Israel in a positive light or anything negative against Palestine and it’s an ongoing series the person has been doing for years.

You're so right and that how long til israel account is so chilling, I was following an account before I left Twitter that tracked drag queens that traveled to Tel Aviv/did propaganda for Israel (I'm looking at you Laganja Estranja) and it's INSANE to me how people are just/were so unaware. Obviously people ARE waking up but like even Gaga with this whole Lightspeed involvement in Outer Bio. I'm having HEAVY feelings about actually wanting to support her ventures anymore because her silence IS deafening.

I rallied behind her saying THE PEOPLE because not every Israeli individual is a supporter of their government, see the American people versus the Trump regime. But as time goes on and the boycotts develop and become more clear ... what are we doing in Sephora, who is opening new locations in Tel Aviv. There's a lot of nuance but I feel like someone who staked SO MUCH of her early career on being an advocate.

Then again the whole crux of a LOT of her activism revolved around the American military industrial complex so like ... like yes advocate for the rights of people to get married, exist in their bodies and with their identities but it IS strange to me that she wanted to send queer bodies off to war. It IS strange to me that the Biden administration didn't have any hard lines about how Netanyahu was handling Gaza. It WAS all talk, so yeah. Being a mouthpiece for "the lesser of two evils" still means that you're associated with evil.

Again, there's nuance but like, at what point is she going to stand for SOMETHING

I think sometimes we often conflate Gaga being left leaning with her being HARD left, I would say she’s more centre left if I’m honest. Because regardless of what anyone says, you can’t be more than centre left when you’re a public figure. Because there’s more centrists than left or right people. She’s also a pacifist so she’s never going to be overtly public ally angry about things like this, especially with how split everyone’s opinions are on it. And she’s literally a part of Hollywood which is largely Zionist anyway. Also her last statement regarding Israel was her saying that the public’s opinion of Israel is “just not reality” in 2014 so there’s a large chance she may very well be a Zionist.

Which wouldn’t personally make me dislike her or stop being a fan, since she’s hardly publicly supportive nor donating directly to them or the IDF. But I would be very disappointed in her.

But also not since she loves John Lennon and models herself on him more than people realise, he was also an anti-nationalist so who knows maybe she isn’t.

It's very disappointing because the way she came out swinging felt like one thing but ... the reality just doesn't align with what I/we thought. And yeah, I may have projected my own beliefs onto her because of Angel Down but like... it's very disappointing
