My random SOAW realisation

I just put in my daily 5 SOAW streams and just now realised something.

The woman is Gaga

She's pining for the next version of herself that she'll become, and mourns the previous 'shapes' of herself that came before. Even though they brought her a lot of tor-cha.

The moment she finds god in the shape of a woman, is the moment when Stefani conceives the new iteration of Gaga that she wants to be. The "old desire" is for her to pick the 'Gaga' mantle back up.

"See me to my grave cuz I found God" = "I'm ready to leave my old self behind because inspiration has struck me".

And she's hurting in her soul when the Lady is gone, because those are the moments when she isn't feeling creative. But at the same time, her beauty comes with a bite: being Gaga brings a lot of passion but also a lot of strife. It's that dichotomy that makes it "a little fun".

It both fits the Mayhem-era narrative as well as the themes of TDWP2, where Andy has to come to peace with the exciting, glamorous, intoxicating yet scary sides of her life. She keeps coming back for more. The lyrics also apply to (fashion) designers and their muses.

A great theory, I can see it!

A lot of Gaga’s music has this theme of another lover or someone to use or fantasize about for a night like:

Poker Face, Sexxx Dreams, Enigma, Government Hooker, ARTPOP, G.U.Y, Dope, etc.

She’s often spoke about the protective yet complicated duality of herself and understanding Gaga vs. Stefani.

If you look at it one way, her discography is basically chronicling the tumultuous relationship between Gaga and Stefani.

I always thought it was about us as a fandom. And how we compartmentalised her into “eras” which is essentially a point she brought up a lot about Mayhem how her past albums were all defined by a sound, an image or a vibe but she wanted Mayhem to contain multitudes where everything was different. 

“Remember when you fell in love, with a shape of a woman” aka remember the version of me you loved, and how much you loved that version of me. “See me to my grave cause I found god, in the shape of a woman” basically she learned to harness her creativity to make the “perfect” version of herself for herself and the fans.

the entire second verse is very clearly about people missing a past version of herself and how we can never predict what she does next and she thinks it’s fun that we can’t.

I think it and Glamorous Life were clearly old Mayhem demos she gave new meaning to for the context of TDWP2. Same for The Dead Dance. I think all they added to The Dead Dance was the bridge. The rest of the song implies it was probably called Dancing ‘til I’m Dead which is a very Gaga title. 

Plus we know she was asked to do both the soundtrack and Wednesday during 2024.
