It’s actually irritating that the longest running hits happen all to be in recent years, it’s literally just algorithms making one song bigger than it actually is. Like you can’t tell me any of those songs are bigger hits than Umbrella or I Got a Feeling or Like A Virgin…

Interesting that they're all country-based songs. Just shows how big that genre is in America and how safe and public friendly it is to demand heavy radio rotation and repeated streaming. Ella Langley isn't a thing in the UK at all and we've moved past the other two. #1 songs mean something totally different to what they once did. You can get a record-breaking song that only a small portion of the country knows or cares about now. The introduction of streaming meant that you could enjoy music that no one else knew about without being told what to follow by what media spoon-fed to you. It means we're so disconnected as a populace with what's on our charts.
