Welcome to the Megarate Ceremony of MAYHEM REQUIEM!

HID-T3eXMAAp7Jx.jpg

When Lady Gaga set off on an international tour in support of MAYHEM, her seventh studio album, she traveled the globe with her own opera house in tow. Each night, the columns and ornate finishes of this surreal theater’s facade served as the backdrop for her journey into the madness of MAYHEM. But now the opera house has been reduced to rubble—and it’s time to pay our respects and prepare for MAYHEM’s final act.

For Apple Music Live, Gaga presents MAYHEM Requiem, a celebration and musical reimagining of MAYHEM. The phantom of her own gothic opera, she spends most of the intimate evening at The Wiltern in Los Angeles at the piano or synths, where she helms reimagined arrangements of “Abracadabra,” “Disease,” and the rest of MAYHEM’s tracklist among the cracked columns and scattered ruins of the opera house. From the heavy industrial clashes of “Killah” to an electro-funk rework of her Bruno Mars duet “Die with a Smile,” MAYHEM Requiem is both a perfect companion to the original album and a singular experience: You’ll never hear the songs of MAYHEM the same way, but you can hear them now.

#14. Don't Call Tonight - 6.91

Highest Score: 10 — gagacabana, The Breast, ManMan, PornoDanceFight
Lowest Score: 2 — Ouranos

Spoiler

Horny Chicken: I think the original song’s weakness transferred to this. It’s just alright.

princedebleble: a cute rendition!

Bronco: Ace of Base meets Mayhem part 2. Don't call tonight unless you've seen the Sign. Feels like a spanish holiday. Took away points because the Bridge vocoder effects feel out of place with the rest of the song.

BloodyVelvet: So glad we got to hear it live

BeyonkaAte: FINALLY !!!! She soudns sooooo good omg somehow the acoustic and less polished sound elevates the original version. Definitely a highlight

gagacabana: R.I.P. with a smile

Nightcallsmile: It enhances the OG, it's more dynamic melodically and in the vocal performance.

PlastiscGuy: I never liked the song to begin with, so this performance made me love it! It reminded of Joanne (album) so ❤️

Huttont: Gave me a little more appreciation for the album version but still not my favorite. I tend to skip. Happy we got it live tho

PartySick: Probably the weakest track on the album for me now. Still a banger but being 10/10 means a little less when you're surrounded by 15/10s. The Requiem version doesn't change much.

PSYCHOSHTICK: Don't like the album version and this is basically the same.

Auralegends: I expected a lot for this given it's the only live performance of this song but it was ok.

PornoDanceFight: Just like the standard one, I could take it or leave it. Glad that we got at least one live performance!

Spoiler

princedebleble: LOVE the vocals on this version, and the intro/outro were brilliant! But again, wish she twisted it a bit like she did with DWAS

Bronco: I'm gonna defend myself here - this song finally feels like it fits within Mayhem within the context of Requiem specifically. The vocals are also more pleasant on this live version. But Requiem is a reimagination led show, and this song doesn't feel any different from the original even with the changes. So as I've judged every other song on Requiem on how it reimagines the original Mayhem track - this one failed the assignment for my self selected criteria.

BloodyVelvet: Haunting and beautiful

BeyonkaAte: Gorgeous interlude leading up to it! the mood livens up and becomes a bit more hopeful and light. Gorgeous vocals and stays faithful to the album version with how straightforward the production is, but the live recording element adds a lovely "human" touch to it, less polished, wich really makes it more enjoyable than the album version. Beautiful love song made even more beautiful !

gagacabana: Lindo

Nightcallsmile: It's good.

PlastiscGuy: Eh..

Huttont: It’s part of the album. That’s all I have to say. No better or worse than the album version.

PartySick: "My man, my man, my man" - Lady Gaga for a looooong time.

PSYCHOSHTICK: I never liked the song until this version. I REALLY like it now, so much more haunting, so much more emotion. Her voice is very annoying to me in the album version. Here it is more mature, deeper and richer.

Auralegends: So much better than the album version. I'm obsessed with the additional backing vocals in the second and final chorus.

PornoDanceFight: Just fine!

Spoiler

Horny Chicken: Good but the original works better.

Bronco: I don't usually get the GoE hype in the fanbase, but the guitar led instrumental on Requiem is the best rendition of GoE.

BloodyVelvet: A bit disappointed. I love this song very much but this version could have been different IMO

BeyonkaAte: RockGa you will forever be famous mhm mhm yup yup!! shred me like you do that guitar mother uughhhhhhhh this scratches such an itch in my brain and throws me back to the mayhem ball. playful and fun performance in an otherwise quite sombre and solemn-sounding show

gagacabana: HEEEEYYY ROCKERS

Nightcallsmile: Another solid one I don't really go back to often

Huttont: The song is so good but the Requiem version is too similar imo. I wish she’d have changed it a little more drastically

PartySick: Already a jam but this version gives me the heavy, weighty rock c*ck I wanted for the album version.

PSYCHOSHTICK: Not to different from the tour version, but the ''EDEN. EDEN. EDEN. EDEN.'' at the end is amazing.

Auralegends: I miss the added voice drops of the album.

Ouranos: Pretty much sounds like the album version and it’s on the lower end of rankings for me

Stamos: The Muse-ification of that beat is just amazing

PornoDanceFight: Tbh, this clears the standard one we have.

#11. Perfect Celebrity - 7.51

Lowest Score: 2 — PlastiscGuy, GAGASEXUAL

Spoiler

princedebleble: would be a 10 if the song grew and exploded towards the end.

Bronco: Feels heavily inspired by the tour mix, so didn't capture the "reinvention" aspect of Requiem for me personally. Like it's the only Requiem track where I felt like I'd heard it before Requiem happened. Loses the punch like Disease does.

BloodyVelvet: Great version - I just hoped it would have been more explosive

BeyonkaAte: Howard Stern acoustic version but with a bit of backing vocals and a piano instead of a guitar. I like it, gritty and heavy, and the way it ends right after the bridge is SO good! HOLLYWOOD'S A GHOST TOWN with the crowd whheeeewww but yeah no album version clears by far and wide

gagacabana: Beautiful

Nightcallsmile: I prefer the Howard Stern version

PlastiscGuy: I didn't like it.

Huttont: Would have been rated higher if she would have sung the chorus one more time. It feels incomplete.

PartySick: It's missing a substantial part of what made the original track so great, also a sandbox, but it's still a wonderful tune.

PSYCHOSHTICK: Cute, but I was disappointed she didn't turn this into an even darker more metal version.

Auralegends: Great vocals, but cut short.

Ouranos: Love the slower version and the sound of her voice on this

Stamos: Great version, lacks the soul of the original in parts

PornoDanceFight: The backing vocals really contribute to the jarring atmosphere of this composition, and adds a new flavor to this already stellar track.

#10. The Beast - 7.72

Lowest Score: 2 — MountainMonster, GAGASEXUAL

Comments:

Spoiler

princedebleble: It's a bit too similar to the original, which already dies down the album too much too soon towards the end.

Bronco: I'll be honest, I get bored by this song and the Requiem version is no different. The instrumental on Requiem is vastly superior, but this song screams interlude.

BeyonkaAte: Again, magnificent vocal performance, just her and a piano, and an eerie barking noise ?? love it !! But yeah kind of monotonous throughout.

gagacabana: THE BEAASSSSTSTT

Nightcallsmile: Also enhances the OG through a more dynamic vocal performance.

PlastiscGuy: I'm biased. I didn't like the performance but I love the song and I know y'all with probably vote it last.

Huttont: I might be in the minority but I like the album version better than this. The timing sounds off to me.

PartySick: Nastyyyyy. Makes me want all kinds of things.

Auralegends: It's ok, better than the album version

PornoDanceFight: Just fine!
