IMO, the biggest failure of RO was always acting like it was a major rebrand. What makes Training Season + Houdini good pop tracks is that they’re essentially disco tracks run through a psych pop filter: catchy, groovy, solid vibe. But I think the rollout campaign making it seem like they were a huge departure from her older sound was always going to make what we got seem disappointing by comparison.

I also think the roll out was a bit slow but equally its crazy an album which got her best ever opening numbers in the US and was a UK#1 and bigged female UK#1 in 3 years is considered a flop. 

It dropped off quicker on the US charts than FN, but was also existing in a totally different music industry economy.

I haven’t seen any articles of her being a flop in Media + everyone knows how bog her tour for that album was
