If free speech wasn’t real, people couldn’t even complain about not having free speech. North Korea for example doesn’t have free speech because the government controls opinions and ideology by banning outside influence. And punishes you for not having a monolithic view of life. Freedom of speech isn’t freedom of consequence also if it overlaps with other laws. For example hate crimes are illegal, so yes you can get arrested for racism and homophobia, but you still also have the ability to believe and think and voice those opinions — but you cannot actively commit hate crimes or impose pro-hate crime ideology into law. Social media isn’t even social anymore it’s predominantly advertisements and engagement bait. Even Gaga doesn’t used social media anymore unless it’s to promote/advertise something or to let us know she’s working on something. She never just does random posts or tweets anymore of her day. Most high profile celebs don't anymore People might not realise but you can profit off of mass outrage online, that’s why there’s both hard left and hard right folks online. Because neutral opinions dont make you money. Thankfully Twitter is at least taking away the monetisation of all content that’s not original — meaning you can’t monetise a tweet that even has a video of footage from say a game because you don’t own the game rights. They’re also clapping down on AI accounts that are used to engagement mine for money. Only fully original content is gonna be monetised.

VTV 14,020
we need social media to go back to its 2010 era where everyone is and can be free. Even if it means we have to pay for freedom if that makes sense.

Horny Chicken 10,985
We need to save today’s youth. My youngest brother is dumber than me and our other siblings when we were at his age and it’s very clear what the problem is/ has been. It sounds funny but it’s a serious problem. I can see it in my young nieces and nephews as well. Edited 2 hours ago by Horny Chicken

I can see it in my young nieces and nephews as well. My place just hired a few Gen alpha (I think?) like first job out of highschool age and they can hardly function. They don't want to work because they're on their phones so much they're causing issues with management and they won't even bend to pick something up off the floor, won't get supplies like we're supposed to. they'll go to the bathroom and wait for someone else to do it. I feel like old man yells at clouds but this newer generation is in dire straits.
Ceres 3,352
Social media should of NEVER been monetized. should of been kept as a "safe" place to write whatever crazy stuf you want and post to your friends. Influencers and marketing only ruined everything. ✧ ✧ ✧

Huh? Almost none of that is correct. No, at least in the United States, where this lawsuit is taking place, free speech is absolutely NOT “just a law that stops the government from being able to control public opinion.” And the standard of free speech is absolutely NOT “if you can complain about not having free speech, and the government doesn’t execute you.” North Korea doesn’t have free speech, correct. That doesn’t mean that its implementation is the only way of restricting it. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with hate crimes in the United States, either. You need to actually commit a crime first, which would carry consequences regardless, to be charged with a hate crime.
Leoooo 2,315
Ugh that line "“hook the users, hold them for as long as they can, harvest their data, and then hide the truth from the public.” Ofcourse I know that in my peripheral, but that is such an poignantly simple / brutal delivery of what they do and it just makes me want to watch it all burn
