All of this is valid and well put, and not the direction of thought I was going.

I looked at it from a stance where if the mum would be mad at swearing in songs, I feel like a song like Government Hooker would meet the same objections because while it's not explicit and does dance around things rather than just screaming "**** me" it's still on the same level of "inappropriateness" as a 12 year old saying ****/****/piss etc

And the song also does end with the poorly censored “I wanna f*ck, government hooker. Stop sh*ttin’ me, government hooker.”

It's a headbutt-wink lol

Like most teens and up will understand it, but actual kids won't (I ****ing hope)

Idk if it’s so much that a kid would immediately understand it as much as it’s so brazen that a kid might hear it and be like, “So what’s this all about?” lmao

Not sure how nod-wink a song that opens with “I want your whiskey mouth all over my blonde south” is, tbf hahah.

Zomg … valid! At the same time, in reading it now with the whole dialectic / devil‘s advocate approach in mind, a whole new level of cultural poetry surfaced … it literally reads like a southern high school party with frat brothers / sorority sisters who were in town for like Fall Break or something … just literally whiskey kisses amidst southern blondes … much more of a cultural lens than anatomical … but again, just riffing nonsense!

This literally reminds me of when I was watching The Mask with my family and then Cameron Diaz said “B-stard!” and I had no idea what it meant but I thought it was funny how overly dramatic her delivery was, so I repeated it somewhat under my breath, but my uncle heard it and was like “We heard that!” … so … I mean lessons never losses, in real time … then I asked my friend what it meant the next day at school and she gave me a completely wrong answer with the utmost confidence and authority in tone :laughga: Maybe it‘s like context … if it’s a gift and OP‘s sister understands there‘s no malicious intent … it could be an album that sort of sets the niece down her path of cultural literacy y’know? Or not at all … I never know these things, I just riff stream of consciousness

Again, none of this might be of any sensible relevance!

My 12-year-old self certainly wouldn’t understand, but I’m not so sure about today’s 12-year-olds

For context, I work with kids and got this ready for whenever I can doctrinate them :huntyga: needless to say how language is a brick wall of understanding because we're brazilians, which means the lyrics are completely dismissed so, for OP's niece, the mixtape must be curated again

Exactly! In my childhood (I’m a millennial) we often missed hidden meanings in songs. But life experience and access to information are bringing this innocence to an end earlier end earlier.

Scissors Sisters was a band that flew under my radar, I think I only know that one famous song “don’t feel like dancing, dancing…”. Anyway, since I never paid much attention, you’ve made me realize now the meaning of their name (millennial and a bit slow)
