thats what my understanding was too- if it’s in the confines of an app in which the song is available and licensed, I can’t imagine an artist can do much of anything other than be like “hey I don’t like that”

y’know, the MAGA folks who do sh*t like this are clearly antagonizing artists who are against what they stand for, so I’m starting to think it gives in to their ragebait every time an artist has to spend effort to denounce it

it gives these pieces of schieße the attention they’re craving, and the president gets off on trolling folks (like him constantly joking about running in 2028)

i almost feel like it’s better to pay them no mind in circumstances like this. if anyone REALLY thinks Gaga would be cool with Shrump using her music on social media, their brain must be soup

The music is cleared for non-commercial use, there's a separate library of music for commercial use. It's really just the technicality of whether political content is considered promotion or not.

Because she never explicitely spoke about the genocide and they dug up a video from the artRave 14 years ago, where she says that Israel is a beautiful and misunderstood place (we all know what her headspace was during that time). Then it turned out that Michael has some business ties with the same country so this is most likely why she cannot say anything. By the way she is not a zionist and rebukes any kind of war, but people's memory tends to be conveniently short sometimes. She/her team allowed a "Free Palestine" message during the Voices of Mayhem segment at the Mayhem Ball but since it's just a droplet in the whole situation a lot of people still think she supports genocides.

To be 1000% clear I do not under any circumstances think she is a supporter of the genocide of what Israel is up to. That is not consistent with what I know her character to be. 

I also don’t think her performing there 14 years ago—as many artists who’re against the genocide have over the decades—is a signal of anything.

BUT, silence on the matter not out of not having anything meaningful to add (which is valid) but rather due to her partner having business ties to the country (if that is true!) would be something worthy of criticism imo. That is a bit contradictory to what most of us know her morals to be.
