Sombr: "I only eat to survive, I don’t eat for pleasure"

i genuinely don't understand how a rich celebrity like him can say this having access to the most delicious and nutritious food at their fingertips, for regular ass people i'd understand this since eating actually is chore, they don't have access to any food like that and they have nobody to help or care about it, they have to do it all themselves including learning how to cook and cook themselves...

Tbh, maybe it's the right time for us as a society to talk about ED's. I'm glad that a man in the public eye talks about this stigma, and it's not only women struggling with. I wish him all the best and hope he opens up to someone profesionall

Well at least he's being open about his struggles, I'm not sure if it's harmful because it possibly would encourage different type of discussion?

It's a complicated one because like he's not critiquing his behaviour but equally isn't presenting it as an ideal or a positive one.
There's obviously the worry that comments like his, alongside Ari's body image, clavicular etc will normalise EDs of any form.

I think the wider issue is the pushback people are doing on behalf of Ari & others. I totally understand pushing back on toxic memes about it, but like i'm fully with Jamelia on this - we can't let young people see these various ED cultures in real time without pushback against the content. It is way harder to help someone once they've developed fully established EDs/disordered eating than it is to get in and nip the bud before it grows.

The problem is that celebrities like Ari are using body positivity to excuse and justify their ED.

This guy at least opened up about it instead of pretending that all is ok and "stop talking about my body", he could have say it differently and less glorifying, but u can feel his struggle between the words.

It's a very delicate topic after all.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

How has this triggered a discussion about eating disorders? I know people who share the exact same sentiment as him. It's not a mental illness

I mean, having to force yourself to eat and disliking eating to the point of inducing nausea is absolutely a sign of disorderd eating which is recognised as problematic by psychiatry and as a potential path to a diagnosable eating disorder. And NEDA explicitly states that disordered eating should be given professional treatment to help symptoms progressing/developing.

Like what Sombr describes are common traits of ARFID which is a recognised ED.

If it was just someone who only ate out of survival obligations (is that even how you would put it lmao) that'd be one thing but bro says he has to force himself to eat to stay alive.

Not everyone has to find recreational joy in food but nobody should be having to force feed themselves.

Horny Chicken

When I was 15, nearly all the girls in my class skipped lunch and ate baby food (apple purée).

Honestly me too. If we didn't need to eat to survive I would probably not eat very often if at all

Because money doesn’t change your relationship to food or solve all your problems lmao
