It was funny to me in that it felt they really didn't know her that well.  They seemed to think she was Middle Eastern.

Precisely this. This is part of why people wanted her to fail so badly. We don't talk about how genuinely disgusting it is that she got overexposed during 2011/2012 simply because she chose to be different. (Some poor promo decisions played a role too, but still.)

Yea but I feel like ppl, with their looksmaxxxing standardism and other new conformisms, slowly become like that again.

I remember seeing a show on tv around 2008/2009 were "celeb experts" were talking about her and laughing at her nose, it was like a show for highschool style bullying

Oh, I remember watching these old videos. Cenk was always such a chauvanist when it came to talking about any celebrity woman. For all that we're told that liberals don't objectify women, they used to sexualise and be so vicious towards women for entertainment (remember shows like Fashion Police?) Cenk would rarely ever pass up on a chance to give his verdict on the looks of any woman they ever talked about, no matter how irrelevant it was. This is the same guy who said he wanted "to make it happen" with Ivana Trump (one of his cringe phrases) and that he didn't mind having sex with a racist girl because he thought she was hot. What got me is how much they got wrong about her back in the day. Cenk thought she was from the suburbs, Ana thought she was middle eastern. A simple Wikipedia search would've set you straight, they're literally sitting there in front of laptops. They could even do a fact check mid-show if they wanted. But no, they'd rather just speculate and spout misinformation that will make them look so stupid further down the line.

There really was a time whole segments of shows would be dedicated to singling out a new celebrity and superficially critiquing them and deciding if they deserve to be here. And if they were the tiniest bit outside the norm, they'd be laughed at. And it was usually always directed at women. Thank God we've moved past that era. I'd really have struggled to hold my tongue if I was famous during this time as I'd want to correct all the BS everyone was saying about me and judging me on something that wasn't even true! At least they liked her nose though. That was a surprise considering that before she was famous, that was a factor that she was pressured to change and why some people called her ugly.
