I mean multiple people are here saying an artwork which uses decades old styling to show personal turmoil and chaos, alongside lyricism which details personal turmoil and inner demons & performances which continue the depiction of personal turmoil and inner demons are inconsistent and don't work together. 

So yeah.

Its absolutely a media literacy issue. Especially when some people saying this I have seen post threads here asking for people to explain the most basic superficial surface level lyricism.

It’s funny everyone is now defending everything mayhem when the visuals for the album were critiqued for being misleading when it came out. What we got as Requiem actually fits the imagery and aesthetic much more. The album was sold as this dark concept compared album compared to the mostly disco focused music we ended up getting.

i've been defending mayhem from the start lol, it's the same people who refuse to change their opinion despite being shown what's what

It’s almost as if spending time with something and getting more context can change your perception of it. Also, fwiw, I never felt the visuals were especially misleading because Gaga has routinely gone darker or edgier visually than she goes musically lol

We can’t be retconning and acting like sexual gothic fascistic religious BDSM was somehow an “obvious” choice for the visuals for Alejandro   She’s always used the visual as a way of, not merely reflecting, but extending the meaning and context of the work. I’m not saying that means you always have to like it or that it’s above critique, but selective application of the “consistency” argument like the relationship between MAYHEM’s visuals + sound are uniquely dissonant is actually the biggest stretch, imo lol. If it doesn’t work for you here, that’s great, but a modest acknowledgement that MAYHEM isn’t exactly unique in terms of having diverging sounds and aesthetics would be nice lol
