I can see how you would interpret it as petty, but it isn’t. 
I think it’s interesting to notice that Madonna did amazing numbers for her album release, much higher than her younger contemporaries. 
Madonna is constantly faced with ageism whenever she announces a new project or is in the media. She was being accused of copying Charli XCX during the Confessions II rollout. 

I’m bringing her sales numbers to attention because I think it’s important to acknowledge that the ageist noise was merely just that, noise. 
The album was successful, more successful than Charli or Tylas albums that were also pretty hyped up. 
It just further proves that if the art is good, people will appreciate it and listen. More importantly, it opens the doors for other female artists and welcomes the fact that aging as a pop star is not taboo or something to be considered embarrassing etc 

Gaga, Katy, Miley, Beyoncé and many of the pop girls will be older one day too and it’s just great to acknowledge that there is room for older women in pop music, and that successful album rollouts like confessions 2 go against the stigma and will make it easier for the other pop girls as they get older.

I sometimes think people forget that album sales are more reflective of fans vs single sales that are more indicative of the general population.

I mean plenty have talked about Brat tourists leaving the charli fan base because of this album. 

So comparing the album sales of the 2 eras is kind of proving that's not the case at this point.

they changed rules this year - brat would debut with more streaming units - about 47k streaming equivalent album and 40k pure | Music, Fashion, Film has 50k pure and 25k streaming equivalent album

Generally agree.

But MFF had 16 total variants (some being genuinely ltd edition) across vinyl,cd and cassette based on the charli xcx reddit masterlist and Brat had 16 vinyl variants alone alongside a further 4 for the companion album.

So yeah.

The talk about Brat fans being tourists doesn't seem to reflect the pure sales.

I thought it would do better than brat tbh since that era rlly blew up and she gained a lot of fans online. I think it could've done better as a surprise release if she released it before the wuthering heights movie soundtrack. Mb a small effect of overexposure.
