Wicked was nominated last year and its not original music since its derived from the broadway play. I think Michael could tecnically qualify as I dont see a difference between them and wicked.

I think the difference is who performed it, as wicked the film has different artists to the original Broadway show. I imagine Michael the film is just playing the original versions

I thought Wicked was recorded music from an adapted show, while Michael is just simply a bunch of MJ's songs from his albums put into a compilation like a Greatest Hits, not even re recorded by the actor.

In this case the soundtrack is eligible for the compilation producer and music supervisor not the performing artists. Previous nominated examples were Once Upon a Time in Hollywood soundtrack.

Jafar Jackson actually sang live and his voice was mixed into the originals along with Michael’s voice. So I guess it’s not a 1:1 copy of the released Michael versions. I’ve seen some Grammy predictors include it so that’s why I guess it will be eligible
