Initially Madonna was openly supportive of Lady Gaga and even attended one of her early concerts. During the creation of BTW album Gaga had been listening to Like a Prayer and clearly took inspiration from Express Yourself. Now obviously there is nothing wrong with that but Gaga deliberately failed to name Madonna as an inspiration for the song and named other artists like Whitney Houston instead, most likely because she wanted to avoid copycat discourse. Madonna initially made no comment on BTW but people picked up on the similarity themselves and started asking Gaga about it and during an interview Gaga outright lied saying she had reached out to Madonna before BTW was released, thereby confirming her failure to cite Madonna was deliberate. A statement from someone on Madonna's team denied Gaga had ever reached out and Madonna shaded her by calling the song reductive shortly afterwards. Gaga and people in her camp crashed out and started shading Madonna on Twitter which prompted Madonna to play a mashup of the two songs on her tour which was the killshot of the spat. Gaga has cited Madonna as an inspiration ever since and the two have been on friendly terms for years now. The two fanbases need to move on. 

I know all of this talk, was/am a picky 80s music fan until my only contemporary star crush came out with Just Dance. So a fan/stan of Gaga's since the beginning and was doing no flogging of dead horses... I was more than half-joking, as I tried to convey with my emoji that I was facetious. I know she used to call Madonna an inspiration. Saw them on SNL together. You are rehashing things now, defending Madonna like your life depends on it.

Gaga wants to be kind, supportive and a mentor to the next generation of young female stars - which she would've done anyway - but also added: because SHE didn't have that. And by all accounts she's gone above and beyond for certain younger stars already, and has been nothing but kind in words and deeds to the newest crop. She's also been nothing but amazing with older stars and legends, striking up incredible friendships with male legends especially (Tony Bennett not being the only one but the most intimate) along the way, but the warmth wasn't reciprocal with Madonna, a woman she once looked up to, in the end.

I do disagree with several of your points, mainly that Gaga "outright lied" (update: it was leaked later that Gaga did reach out to Madonna via Interscope back when she said she did, by the way, I nearly forgot), that Gaga "definitely" listened to only Like A Prayer before and during writing BTW the song and album, Gaga wrote and recorded all but one BTW song (Heavy Metal Lover) including the title track on a tour bus inbetween her nearly two-year long Monster Ball, she listened to anything and everything but was especially inspired by underground European techno/industrial dance music at the time but anyway... Or that the songs are that alike, especially sheet music-wise they're absolutely not and if Gaga HAD to somehow name her out of pure caution that would be ridiculous, then Madonna had to have given actual credits to The Rolling Stones' Sympathy For The Devil (I think, the "debate" was so long ago ) from decades earlier since that sheet music was nearly the same. See? Who's the one flogging dead horses here? You're dragging me into arguments from 2011... And that particular mashup? Wasn't mild like you said, it was bullying from a public figure/celebrity who should've been wiser imho. But ANYWAY.

I made a joke, indicating I'm looong past it. I have nothing against Madonna putting out music but you seem busy defending a decade+ faux-feud - faux because it just disillusioned and disappointed the party you're not defending, she didn't retaliate because she's not like that. And definitely Not Like Her  If I may make another joke (their music couldn't be more different, I hope you've noticed over the 18+ years Gaga's been around?)
