I think the best thing for DC is to ditch the humor and the PG-13 kind of movies and just go PG-16 or even M and really shine with the dark psychopathic themes of their villains.

I don't think we're gonna completely escape the pg-13ness of the big main canon films for money reasons but it sounds like you're in luck, bb. Clayface is a dark R. Knightfall is dark R. Lanterns looks pretty serious. Paradise Lost will probably be Game of Thrones-esque. Swamp Thing is 100% gonna be messed up. And the Joker series they just announced sounds pretty dark too

The actual problem is DC fan boys are exactly that; boys. Marvel has always had a bigger female demographic because of how they’ve treat their female heroes in comics.

All the critiques I’ve seen from DC fans is to do with her appearance and that’s literally where it ends. People want p*rnographic looking actresses sadly. Plus DC is a decade too late to compete with the MCU amd their fans dont want an MCU they want one shot movies. DC fans also want their movies to be darker and more violent because (for some reason) DC fans forget that they originate from kids comics and not everything has to be a Tim Burton movie (which is their gold standard).

People can claim that superhero movies are tired but the most anticipated films for this year are 2 superhero movies (Brand New Day and Doomsday) I was lucky to get an early screening for BND and every ticket at my local small town cinema is sold out for a full week for BND. And not to mention the MCU itself is on the verge or a shift in focus to the XMen which is hugely anticipated and will only become bigger once Sadie Sink finally gets revealed as Jean Grey (my mother!) in Spider-Man.

I haven’t seen SuperGirl yet because I’m not a DC person. But the more chuds dislike it the more I wanna see it.

Only hardcore comic fans care about this character and the actress actively antagonized them 3 separate times with her belligerent comments, so this kinda makes sense.

Although I can’t account for the antagonism but I can tell you it takes time to earn the respect because The Avengers are a D maybe C list team at best in the comics, they only had a resurgence in comics BECAUSE of the movies and even then it took till about Thor Ragnarok to earn that respect fully. The public only knew and cared about XMen and SpiderMan from Marvel for a while — there was a point that SpiderMan thanks to the movies was the biggest superhero, and even the XMen movies made Wolverine bigger than he actually is in the comics whilst sidelining the actual best heroes like Storm, Jean and Cyclops.

If they have faith in the actress and the storylines, id say give Gunn 5-10 years to get it together. DC fans (and Gunn actually) are often quite misogynistic about their female characters. DC hasn’t developed a female character properly since the late 90s. They prioritise their male heroes — a failure that also has happened in the MCU, because Lizzie Olsen became the biggest loved character after IronMan in the movies and tv shows. But they nerfed her and Olsen hasn’t had the desire to work for them again until they give her a new take on the character (or unless they do House of M specifically she’s said)

Proof that no one gives a F about superhero movies , except for some straight men who like to see another muscular manly MAN as the superhero in spray painted on costumes

the superhero thing has been done to death. We don’t need 10 movies of the same character Jfc

This reads like projection. Yikes!

This isn’t projection it’s literally the biggest critique incels have of the movie and her online. Just scroll through X for instance or do I need to post like 10 screenshots?

The nerd in me is forcing me to say that she's very much not the female version of Supergirl.

Unfortunately a lot of people are concerned about the sex appeal of Supergirl. And every female hero. And just about every video game woman. It's like... a whole thing.

Very much this let’s not act like the criticism of Gaga not being sexy enough to be Harley in JFAD wasn’t a thing before they even found out about the musical element, or that they turned on Margot after sexualising her in Suicide Squad when she made Birds of Prey because it wasn’t for the Male Gaze and she wasn’t infantilised. Literally every single DC movie with female characters has critiques of the female characters not being sexy enough and the only one who didn’t get those critiques was Gal despite her being a terrible actress and person just because she was “hot”.

the script issues is a typical Gunn thing, he likes to drastically change the characters and the lore from the comics.

The guardians in the comics are totally different than the movie, like Mantis is a human from earth for example, Drax was a human named Arthur Douglas and Thanos killed him and his family and the god Kronos moved his soul to a new god-like alien body that we know from the movie.

Like it's a nice lore but was changed to make the characters more cosmic and alien, it worked for the MCU because the guardians were new characters to the GP I guess.

it's also that he's not that good of a writer. the Superman script was ridiculous and pretty uneven imo. the movie was really not as good as it needed to be.
