You should have included A-YO. It works as a much better lead single than Perfect Illusion. Apart from that, Diamond Heart is also a wonderful pick.

Gaga was fighting a lot of uphill battles with this album so I don't any of the songs had much of a chance to become a BIG hit.

A-YO would've made more sense in terms of being a good introduction to the album. I think it has the biggest hit potential if it has been given the right treatment.

Million Reasons would've been decent too, especially after the maximalism of ARTPOP, but I know for a fact that I would've hated it as a lead back then

Diamond Heart is one of my most skipped tracks of her discography so I can't wrap my head around the fact that it's winning the poll

John Wayne is rly the only good choice as a lead. Perfect illusion is still an odd song to this day. It works more alongside MAYHEM material than its own albums!

The right choice imo is Diamond Heart.

Radio-friendly, raw energy, gives truly what the album will sound like. 

The singles should have been Diamond Heart, Million Reasons, John Wayne (promo), and Joanne.

I think despite it not being representative of the album it made for a good lead single. Its impact would have been much less as an album track. And I think it had enough “Gaga” in it to still be an interesting lead and get people talking about the album. 
 

but if we are going off sound only, I think diamond heart or even AYO would have been a better introduction to the Joanne soundscape

Would have voted for A-YO if it was an option. I really think it had the potential with the proper push. It was catchy especially the "mirror on the ceiling" part. Diamond Heart is my second choice! Both great!

I can understand why Perfect Illusion was chosen though. For some reason when I listen to the whole album, PI sounds amazing but on its own it sounds quite bad
