chathonnete 1,008
Am I the only one disappointed that many gay icons don't share any message for pride this year ? I don't see pride as something superificial, but as a reminder that people are here for us, show support. I feel sad that Gaga and other celebs don't post anything while it's so important especually this year 4
PartySick 172,077
Of course it's disappointing. What's really disappointing is how many people don't think it's necessary. Whimsical bitch 1

Ladle Ghoulash 50,009
Like clockwork, we’re having the “why didn’t a famous queer icon virtue signal to their own fan base argument” again lol. A woman who performed Born This Way every night for the better part of the past year, mind you. Would it be a nice gesture? Sure. Do I think it’s necessary at this point? No. I’m not even being defensive of her so much as I genuinely don’t understand the weight/fixation that people place on posting something on social media. If you don’t see Gaga as an advocate for and supporter of the LGBTQ+ community unless she posts something on IG, that borders on object impermanence lmao Edited Tuesday at 01:33 PM by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS 12 1

River 126,346
We don't need celebrities to have their 5 seconds of pride fame during pride month, we achieved what we achieved not thanks to their support but despite their support. Gaga is queer, she's celebrating pride all year, every year, every moment of her life, she doesn't need to prove this to anyone. Being disappointed by celebrities is kind of childish. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy 7
AVeryGagaHolyDick 31,446
Over the years, I’ve learned to not expect too much from her (or other big celebs) and I don’t support her financially. I’m sure she’s a great person and I love her, but I believe once you’ve reached a certain level of fame, success and money, you automatically become disconnected from reality and you can’t help it. Because it’s all about you and people always want something from you.And I believe she’s right there. That does NOT mean she doesn’t care or anything, but she’s at a place where she won’t do too much and it’s okay. She’s done a lot for us, and it worked. But 2010Ga is kinda dead and I don’t blame her for that. It’s just something you can’t avoid, me thinks. (unless your success isn’t too big obviously.) I don’t mind her not posting about Pride Month cause we know her heart is with us. What disturbs me more is the fact that she didn’t say anything about the Madison Square Garden staff being unapologetically transphobic, or other things like that. Specific things she has some power over. Edited Tuesday at 01:52 PM by AVeryGagaHolyDick 5 2
Bronco 23,373
Queer celebrities don't need to do a social media post to mark pride month. The issues the community faces exist outside of June and we need to stop focusing on this idea of funnelling all attention into a 30 day window once a year. I'm only disappointed when queer celebrities are silent when specific issues hit the news cycle/something specifical happens etc. Because thats when being vocal matters. This puts an awful lot of weight on a social media post, tbh. I’m not arguing against visibility, but making the stakes of posting “Happy Pride” on IG about death and discrimination feels incredibly disproportionate. Saying Happy Pride in June means **** all tbh. Especially when those same people posting Happy Pride were silent when Brianna Ghey was murdered in the UK for example. Or are staying silent over Ghanan politicians attempt to criminalise identifying as LGBTQ+. Or have said nothing about this recent case in Idaho https://www.advocate.com/news/crime/idaho-assault-hate-crime Or this case https://www.advocate.com/news/crime/myrtle-beach-hate-crime-lgbtq Or this case https://www.advocate.com/news/virginia-trans-student-sues And naturally, there are way more examples of things we need to talk about instead of just posting a rainbow flag on June 1st.
