He will remain leader temporarily until a new leader is appointed before Parliament resumes in September. Most likely Andy Burnham will become the new Prime Minister.

It’s also expected that many members of cabinet who have supported his policies specifically on Digital ID and Social Media restrictions — which have experienced big backlashes — could possibly resign before September too.

Heres hoping! Burnham is gonna have to do a LOT before the election to keep Labour in power sadly. I suspect the first thing he’ll do is backpedal / rescind on Stamer’s Digital ID policies as a promise during a  “re-election” campaign for the general election.

I don't think he'll publicly backdown on the digital ID stuff because the version he inherits is specifically the social media ban which is posing popular in polling with the groups who actually turn out & vote. And it is very hard to go after a policy specifically linked to child safety - its why the Lib Dems/Reform haven't been able to figure out a way to truly highlight on their opposition to it.

With the current rumours the key things Burnham is going to do to change the public perception of the government will be fighting a battle with the treasury.
If he is truly considering Healey for Chancellor as the rumours are suggesting is now a possibility - then he's planning to continue the fight with the Treasury over defence funding that Healey started by resigning recently.
And then combining it with his pledge to force a UK first consideration into government contract awarding by the treasury.

Also I fully expect him to export out Manchesterism - so continuing further devolving of powers to existing local governments rather than trying to create new combined authorities etc. And a focus on driving up collaboration between existing LAs rather than forcing it via the new CAs Starmer focused on.
And there will be a focus on improving the infrastructure of the UK by copying the Bee Network model - while also very much chasing private investment everywhere else.

It'll be a massive attack on centralisation and if done right, will rebuild some of Labour's historical strength in Scotland & Wales.

Andy Burnham seems to be basically getting given it at this point.

He's to the left of Starmer.
But then again, so was Hitler.

As a mancunian I am so happy that Andy is the alternative although this government has dissapointed me somewhat. Although, as much as im no Kier stan, I dont really understand why so many people hate him. He kept us out of the Iranian war and kept his cool when he was essentially publicly bullied by Trump. Even Trump tweeted his resignation last night before Kier had a chance to address the nation, so distasteful

I mean he's complicit in the Israeli genocide in Gaza & the war crimes in the West Bank/Lebanon and appointed multiple best friends of child abusers to positions of power & influence.
It's not like people hate him but he was a good person. He's a c*nt

Off the top of my head; complicit in the genocide in Gaza, bended to the will of TERFs and imposed single sex space laws that just don’t work and push trans people out, created a social media ban for under 16s that was going to become a back door for imposing digital ID.

Although they never happened he also proposed before he left to implement the governments ability to see EVERYTHING citizens are doing on their phones every key stroke, every message and every website they visited — which thankfully I can’t see anybody doing now.

Although I agree him keeping us out of the Iran war (although he did give Trump our bases to use yikes) was good, and he lowered net migration as a start. He is too centrist (as is all modern Labour sadly) even more than Burnham and has been playing both sides of the political spectrum since he got in.

Oh and be also proposed social media curfews (I think it was between 8am and 10pm) for young people aged 16 - 18 with an outright ban on young people under 16 ok social media overall. But I doubt that’ll happen now

The trans bathroom situation is also the most confusing because, the law doesn’t outright BAN trans people from single sex spaces — instead it encourages characteristics discrimination based on someone’s appearance, voice, stature etc basically if you’re passing. Businesses also CANNOT stop trans people from going into bathrooms in public businesses like coffee shops etc unless their appearance gives warrant for them to be asked to leave the space. But also because the equality act is in place businesses can’t discriminate still, and can only act if customers complain about trans people in the space and feel unsafe.

They also must have a gender neutral/unisex space like a disabled toilet available for trans people, but trans activists have said that the new guidance would make them more targets to people in public, and would also create criticism because they’re using spaces reserved for people with disabilities. So it’s a lose-lose situation.

TERFs are saying it’s not a strong enough thing and should be an outright ban on being in single sex spaces that aren’t aligned with your biological sex. But they’ve also offered no way to police this other than “faith” that trans people will just be uncomfortable and not want to go in because of the fear of being hate crimed.

it’s probably the most ridiculous thing that’s happened and should be scrapped.

I think he will have to back down on the digital ID and social media ban because in order to impose an under 16 ban, it’s going to require people sign up to social media with the information Stamer said they could use to prove they’re over 16 like digital ID, credit cards and other ID documents. Which people are against sharing their information with social media sites. It’ll kill social media in the UK, not to the point of North Korea obviously but it’s a step in that direction. Thanks fully his tracking messages and content on your phone thing is never gonna fly I can’t see Burnham passing that.

Also he’s going to have to address an unspoken and controversial topic and that’s that; under Starmer the government has been very much bending to the whim of older people just BECAUSE they vote more, but the catch 22 is the more they focus on the older generation the less young people are going to vote because they’re not helping young people out.

Young people now face hardships unprecedented to the older generation when it comes to economics, finance and their future. And instead of wanting better for the next and younger generation people like Boomers and Gen X have prioritised themselves. Also doesn’t help that most people in politics are boomers or older with some millennials just finally becoming political figures.
