Among them...

Freddy Mercury has the best voice

Michael Jackson has the best discography

Prince has the second best discography

But can any of them do back flips?

Freddie and Prince were great musicians

MJ was a fcking great ARTIST, what he did will be untouched centuries from now on

Aside from good music, he was a fantastic performer, innovative and was the goat of his time

He helped build the concept of what a huge popstar should be

So MJ forever!!!

Prince is the best musician and songwriter, hands down. Like that's just not disputable.

Michael is the best showman imo.

Freddie falls between those.

The thing with Prince is he may have been the bigger musical "genius", but he also stuck to a certain sound that he became synonymous with and I think that limited his megawatt status. That said he was still megawatt in his own right and a true blue musical prodigy, and i don't use that lightly. Michael Jackson had a level of panache and showmanship that he didn't need to be a solo genius and could afford some flop tracks or even albums because there was always at least one song that reminded you he was so good (Earth Song, for example). If Prince was a musical genius, Michael was a genius in a similar vein to Beyonce where he knew how to bring things together and was always the best person for a track he sang on. Just elevated demos. I do think Beyonce does that even better, though, since nothing since Self-Titled has had the lows of some of Michael's cornier 90s stuff. She's more consistent, if less thrilling, but I digress. IMO Freddie Mercury never quite had the opportunity to shake the trappings of his era, but undeniably made rock a lot more interesting. He was a star that VERY much typified the times he was in given his exaggerations, but Prince and Michael could coast above them.

Ngl I genuinely think Prince basically takes the cake in every category. Amazing singer, excellent performer, incredible musician + songwriter.

MJ is an icon, but Prince’s work + style always spoke to me more. Freddie’s also phenomenal, but I honestly think Queen’s catalog is a fairly mixed bag.

I mean, no shade, but we can’t be acting like Prince wasn’t also a visionary artist and excellent performer. I’d say MJ was probably a bigger *icon*, but I don’t think differentiating Prince and MJ relative to *artistry* really holds, imo.

Right, like when he was on it he was on it and made songs like this, I Would Die 4 U, Diamonds and Pearls, etc. but I think his one flaw is he could get a but hung up in his defined style that's SO specific and recognizable which can be good or bad.

EDIT: I love my psycho gemini. truly a hilarious monster diva

I think that’s fair, but Prince also did experiment quite a bit (Sign O’ The Times was definitely different for him on the whole and still became one of his more iconic records, for example). I also don’t necessarily think having a recognizable style is a huge issue and you could say the same is true of MJ, tbh
