Obviously the ultimate goal for a pop star is to become a lasting legend, but not everyone can achieve that. The next best thing is probably to have a few huge songs that last. So while the artist themselves fade, the iconic hits last. The artist will collect stream cheque, they can tour the classic hits every now and then, and while they are irrelevant, the songs still last.
