Best Asian Pop Music Performance
This category recognizes excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s).
Best Latin Song
This category recognizes the achievement of songwriters for newly written Latin songs predominantly in the Spanish language (at least 51% of the lyrics). Awards are presented to the songwriter(s) of new material.
Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance
 Jazz, Traditional Pop, Contemporary Instrumental & Musical Theater Field/ This category recognizes excellence in contemporary R&B performances (vocal or instrumental) for works by established duos or groups, as well as collaborative works between solo artists, duos and groups. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s). With the addition of this new category, the Best R&B Performance category has been revised and renamed Best R&B Solo Performance.
Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance
This category recognizes excellence in singles and tracks that consist of a type and style of song and/or performance that cannot properly be intermingled with present forms of pop music. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s).
Best Traditional Folk Album
This category recognizes excellence in albums of traditional folk recordings.

Most Grammy categories aren’t televised. There’s probably at least 50. Only about eight make it to tv

Most of these are kinda unessesary. Best Asian Performance seems like a cop out because the Academy refuses to recognize Kpop in their typical categories. Its segregation disguised as progress lowkey. 

****ing rude to create Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance after Harlequin. Gaga would have snatched like 3 extra grammys off her jazz records alone.

it's been news for 5 minutes and i've already seen multiple tweets about how this is xenophobia and that they should be nominated in the main categories.

Im 50/50 on this. I could entertain the idea that KPop is distinctive and big enough to have its own category, but racializing it rubs me the wrong way. In the end its just pop in korean, truest inclusion would be for it to compete in the normal categories.

Its the same case when they made Contemporary Country Album a thing. While it could be inclusion in a sense that its giving them a table on the room, its also simultaneously saying you can't sit with the "normal western acts". I get both sides
