The music Is actually nive gives nostalgia for Katy Perry. Its those lyrics that are like swallowing shards of glass. But its her best single since likeva decade maybe.

I think the issue with Katy is more related to her reputation rather than the music itself. Plenty of popstars release mediocre or trend-chasing songs. With Katy there's no recognizable identity or anything to separate her from her peers aside from legacy. Her innuendo and playfulness are not as effective on the hundredth time around. It makes every attempt to establish and "reinvent" herself feel half hearted and flippant.

If "Watch It Burn" is meant to be an earnest attempt to return to her roots, it's hard to take it seriously when she's spent the past decade making everything into a joke. 

It's the same road Lil Nas X went down. At some point the audience stops seeing the person behind the artist because everything was a spectacle and an act, but it all became played out and there was no genuine connection anywhere. Nothing about Katy seems genuine. Witness, which she tried to sell as an album about mental health, was a huge spectacle and did not live up to what she claimed nor did it scratch below the surface. Nothing caught on until Smile started to connect with some people. It seemed sincere on some level and this forum in particular actually threw a lot of support behind her. And then she quickly went back to the bullshit with 143. Her A&R, despite his sucess throughout the early 2000s, should be fired. So should her PR and her manager.  She should have never been allowed to work with Luke again and she should have been taking responsibility for her multiple blunders over the last 10 years of her career rather than playing the victim in every single scenario.

The only demographic who I still see eating her up and praising her new stuff are Brazilian gays who don't speak English and don't keep up with her personality. They are banging pots and pans for her to go to Copacabana next year and praising the song and video in every pop news portal. The same thing happens with Brazilian Madonna fans who still give Gaga a lot of sh*t because they don't keep up with interviews, interactions, they don't grasp intonation, intent, they can't read the behind the scenes well and then act with half-informed arrogance.
