I mean let’s be objective Gaga has done better than Bad Romance tenfold since The Fame Monster, that album is only the standard of her work for normies.

And HML is objectively a filler track; it was the last song made, it is repetitive, the lyrics are sparse, it has no real chorus (which is funny since most people love this but hate the “lack of” choruses in her modern work), is excessively auto tuned and phased to death to hide any vocal flaws and it has 2-3 vocal layers the least of any song on any album she’s put out, it sonically doesn’t connect to anything else on the album (doesn’t sound 80s or 90s at all) and thematically it doesn’t fit whatsoever. The drop is great but that’s the only redeeming quality.

Is it better than the other pop girls discographies of the time? Hell yes. But it isn’t up to par with Gaga’s standard at the time. 

So I stand by a fully well produced song is better than a song made 2 weeks before she submitted the album during the Judas promo cycle

Scheisse is a bop but Heavy Metal Lover is that futuristic industrial dark synth bop from the year 2080...

After watching Requiem...I think Gaga is exploring this sound again for LG8

To me, Bad Romance is her best song & always will be... but I think we will always look at it from a different angle, which is fair.

BUT 

I cannot abide the discounting of HML, Miss Zus.

It was indeed the final song made for Born This Way (sometimes, when I think about that… I shudder with dread, imagining the album/my life had she not followed her impulse & created/included it).

But that shouldn’t sway one’s feelings about it, no? Last minute decision, sure… but one of the best she made during the album’s formation. Certainly undeserving of being called a "filler track."

 

When a chorus melody is strong enough, do you NEED lyrics?  The "ooh-ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo" is so addictive, it seems blasphemous to imagine anything else in its place.

Imo, the autotune is a bold stylistic choice, rather than a crutch the way it is for some artists. Because when someone like LG (who we KNOW can sing/belt like no one’s business) chooses to utilize it… it can be so impactful, & enhance a song in ways no other instrument possibly can. 

Appealing to your affinity for maximalist makeup: in HML, the autotune/vocoder is not supposed to be concealer forr a blemish, but rather shimmering highlighter to enrapture the senses ✨

 

Furthermore, while HML is a sexy, sleazy track… it has (arguably) the most profound lyric of her entire career hidden within it: “I could be your girl… but would you love me if I ruled the world?” 

It's almost like she is taking a brief, unexpected moment during a fun, sweaty party to lean in... & straight-up ask her man if his love for her is stronger than his own ego/pride. 

The way she intentionally sings it with such flat, dead-eyed emotion… evoking subtext of “just FYI, this is how it’s going to be, so… take me or leave me.”

 

Ironically, when I hear that divine lyric… I picture something emotionally similar to your pfp

“Are you willing to stand by my side throughout my unique, celebrated life circumstances… even if ‘standing by my side’ will often mean *walking behind* me as people clamor for me & basically ignore you?  I could be your squeeze & make you happy… but if you cannot meet me where I’m at… do not waste my time.”

 

Tl;dr... I hope you will reconsider & come to love the song even half as much as I do someday haha

Heavy Metal Lover is transcendent. Scheibe has always been a bit overrated by this fanbase imo.  I wouldn’t even put it in my top half of BTW.
