No, Chromatica has a few genuinely great songs but the project as a whole is aging like milk. The ARTPOP era was a mess but it's received a lot of retrospective love since the album is polarizing yet memorable. Chromatica is just boring and was soon overshadowed by much better pop albums in 2020 like Future Nostalgia, Renaissance or After Hours.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. The album has a few good/decent songs like Replay, Sour candy, Alice, 911 and Rain On Me but it's not very memorable and doesn't have any real standout tracks. Also it was received quite well by critics when it came out so I don't see why it would need a "resurgence" of sorts.

actually that would be you sister, the real world is indifferent to chromatica

to say it's widely disliked as ARTPOP was is completely false

it's only here that has a strong negative reaction to chromatica

I don’t think so, the Chromatica songs (even though I really love most of them) lack the substance ARTPOP had, the adrenaline rush… I mean you can watch React videos on YouTube and people (to this day!!!!) who usually wouldn’t listen to Gaga always get shocked when they listen to ARTPOP and how electrifying it is

Chromatica on the other hand might be very difficult to connect with if you’re not a fan or if you don’t know its background

Honestly, no.

Its by no means a bad pop album, its just weak by Gaga's standards and will likely always sit near the bottom of the pile.

But it lacks any flair or true unique vision/creative impulses to help it with fan reassessments later in life.

ARTPOP was messy, but a lot of the hate it built up at the time wasn't truly linked to the music but the chart performance. Fanbases experience ego death when an album "flops". Once the dust settles and the only thing to do is focus on music, that lets an album breathe.

Chromatica, minus the covid pause, was a successful album/tour/era. It just doesn't have the same power that other Gaga eras had.

I think it was a fun album but not as solid as the rest of Gaga's discography.

But the Chromatica Ball is genuinely underrated while I think it was one of the best thing that Gaga done in her career. :saladga:

I don’t know why fans often rewrite history in a way that undermines Gaga’s success. Being overshadowed in ‘20 had nothing to do with it being boring or less good than FN, AH, or Renaissance (which was released 2 years later).  It earned her highest MC score, 2 top 10 singles (including a #1), a Grammy, several VMAs, and one of the best streaming debuts of the year. FN and AH had 9 and 5 singles, respectively, compared to Chromatica’s 2. They dominated the airwaves and discussion with constant promos, remixes for 2 years.

This is the problem obsessing over daily streams and substituting it as a barometer of quality or commercial success for an album that is 6 years old. The idea music to sustain some level of interest indefinitely or else it be deemed a flop or “dated” is why pop music is becoming more and more homogenized. If the GP can’t distinguish between a Taylor, Dua, or Ariana single released in 2020, 2023, or 2026, then sure, it’s likely to pull middle of the road streams for years.

I’m not saying Chromatica is groundbreaking or experimental; just that retroactively stripping it of its critical acclaim and commercial success upon release because songs like 911, Replay, Babylon, SFA, don’t fit comfortably onto easy-listening playlists is silly.

ARTPOP was a huge moment and the era were she did the most promo ever and it was pre TikTok and even streaming and what not. Chromosome is still too recent and nothing major changed in the music industry after that.

So people that didn't really experienced ARTPOP have a lot of stuff to find where with Chromatica we've seen the most of it already and there is not much to find or experience.

I personally love it so I do hope someday it will but I doubt it.

I don’t even think ARTPOP has REALLY had it’s renaissance, yes it got massive appreciation years ago but we have to ask… without the fanbase hung up on Act 2 and the promise of it having “better, more true and experimental music” would we even care?

ARTPOP as a whole is an excellent album to me but its mythology is what keeps it alive I think. Ever since Gaga said she was CONSIDERING an Act 2 when making the album we’ve taken it as gospel, yeah she said she has an “act 2” but her producers have all pretty much confirmed that all the left over music is just concepts and unfinished demos (and Zedd pretty much said all the music he worked on for ARTPOP ended up on the album) and after the big push for it’s release and Interscope silencing DJWS we need to move beyond that.

Does it make ARTPOP a bad album? No. But does it make it one of her best? Also no. It’s a mish mash of concept and sound and was back when she couldn’t properly refine concepts. In fact all of her albums until Mayhem were unrefined conceptually. Mayhem is definitely her best album overall so far.

So tldr; No it won’t because it doesn’t have enough life outside of the album itself anymore
