MAYHEM is her best album ever so, she'd need to do one of the followings imo: produce the album in its entirety by herself; talk about deeper, complex, philosophical aspects of life (even political if you might, but I seriously doubt it will happen like ever) or craft an album on the same nerve as MAYHEM and taking it to the next level. Things which don't necessarily scream "trying too much" to outdo herself

I hope she doesn’t go retro in such an obvious way. A good portion of MAYHEM almost sounds like ripoffs

And as someone mentioned, I hope she focuses on the melodies. There’s a reason the hits of the album are DWAS and Abra. Their melodies are impeccable.

I really don’t get the hype over the DWAS melody. Abra’s is magical and the construction of the song is brilliant: the way that every different melodic section weaves around the harmonic scale of the previous section and builds on it is genuinely masterful and basically every part of the song is ear candy. DWAS’ melody, ironically given what you said about ripoffs/derivation about other tracks, was the one where I heard it and I went, “I feel like I’ve heard a million songs that sound/feel like this”

I wouldn't expect her to top it. Not with the next album anyway.

Everything about the Mayhem era was special and worked perfectly. Eras like that don't come along often.

I don't think she will or needs to top the era. The album however, judging by how inspired she is, I can see happening.

Honestly objectively talking the only thing that kept Mayhem from being her best was a couple of mid songs on the second half of the tracklist. A couple of these songs where incidentally the ones she performed the least times. So I don't doubt she has it in her to make an album where every song keeps up with the first 8-9 tracks of Mayhem, which would immediately be the best album of her career.

She can do it easily by running back to RedOne. It's just a matter of whether her pride allows her to do it.

thats not pride, thats desperation for a hit

she's an artist that evolves by bringing fresh collaborations regularly which is incredibly healthy for her craft and career

running back to your OG hit maker worked out horribly for katy perry

mother, what must i do?

Honestly, not sure.

I'd like to have a visual album at some point (Chromatica deserved the treatment).

Sonically, further exploration of her voice both in registers and timbres she can produce. For the sound itself, whatever she feels like doing, her best work is when she's not restricted by a cohessive sound.

by releasing a double album, like what she wanted to do for ARTPOP, one with dance bangers à la Confession, and one with more experimental things. Maybe a whole gurl band thing (Hello Prince !).

Or a full visual album made with french electronic producers somewhere in a castle in France.
