I think guy is more audacious in lyrics, because it's rare to have an anthem for power bottoming (i can't think the 'i"I don't need to be on top" is not also for the gays, there is a double meaning for me or maybe a triple with the top of the charts or being always the best), but the dead dance means to me embracing your darkness but also knowing you'll fight for life till the end, it's... also kinda very dark if you think of it "you stole my thoughts before i dreamed 'em, and you killed my queen with just one pawn"... I think the song is powerful because it comes from her darkest place to her brightest one. I can't chose right now, but i think the intro for guy and the bridge are a tad more iconic. Also musically i think the dead dance is so interresting because I heard it as a disco-ish song and some friend of mine heard it as early 00's dance. Like. It shows it's complexity in blending genders. I think this is very mature musically. It sounds generic but it blands a lot of things... overall the fact TDD came at a dark time in my life made it so important for me. I also loved the wednesday scene. So it wins for me. I think many people who became fans post-ARTPOP (myself included) like the song, but it doesn’t feel as impactful as other singles. For me personally, and song wasn’t a hit but was single kinda gets lumped in with the album tracks in my mind. With singles being less relevant in the streaming era (and no longer having a ton of televised performances), I feel like many newer fans think more in terms of “hits” than “singles.” I often forget Stupid Love, Perfect Illusion, and Mary the Night were singles. GUY falls into that category as well. The Dead Dance has the major advantage of being in a TV show, so the show will help keep it alive. Plus it’s another Gaga song that could become a Halloween staple. I think the GP will always associate the song more with Wednesday than Gaga, but it will stay relevant at Halloween.
