I also didn’t like Disease as a single or even in general too much at first and that completely changed with time and context. It’s not a new sound for her completely but it does feel different. Yes - the lower register. The melancholy synths. Idk it just feels all very very intentional. The vocal delivery feels so intentional and intimate. I like that it’s not bombastic and big. It’s just so pretty to me. I’m not a big Ari fan at all really - so I’m surprised how captivated I was upon first listen especially after seeing all the negative critiques. There’s something unique to it. This to me is what I feel Gaga fans thought she was doing with Die With a Smile Requiem version in terms of artistry. Someone here said production can be too polished at times but I don’t think I agree - there’s this grit on that synth bass line that feels so deliciously contrasted with the soft vocals. It’s really enjoyable for me personally. It’s like a side of her that I never knew was there and I’m really happy to listen to. Like no - I don’t wanna hear this at a club.
